I find I am mistaken thinking Putin would not topple the government in Kiev. I choose to spell the Ukrainian capital using the Russian transliteration. It only recently became Kyiv to wokesters. Amazing how quickly Ukrainian has become popular, especially to those who have never been there and cannot find Ukraine on a world map. The same thing happened with Peking. When I was young, it was known as Peiping, pronounced without bilabial aspiration as Bay Ping.
I surmise Putin will take down the Ukrainian government and supervise a pro-Russian election. It will probably be a more fair election than the American election swindle of 2020. What Putin may not have bargained for, is the possibility of Ukrainian guerilla warfare. It took Stalin many years to quiet Ukraine. Ukrainians WILL fight, especially those where Ukrainians vastly outnumber ethnic Russians such as in Kiev and Kharkov.
I believe NATO should be slowly dismantled, and all the countries of Europe should be using the Euro and mutually disarm themselves. Europeans do not want to fight. Such a plan would extinguish the idea of empire which has characterized Russian history. With all the missiles pointed at Russia, and Russian missles pointed at its adversaries, the situation is ridiculous and a bad allocation of valuable resources. Small wonder Putin is not a compliant lamb…

Russia is not a communist nation any longer.
They are certainly autocratic but capitalistic. Their economy is a raw materials economy…. Undiverse, but capitalistic.
Putin, from what I’ve read, also doesn’t crack down on religious institutions like the CCCP or the Chinese do.
He’s also allowing free decent in the streets right now with no police action.
I’m struggling to understand why anyone would support Russia. The only reason to invade is simply to keep them out of NATO.
It sure sounds like trump supporters want dictators and elites to rule the world. It is really odd to see all the support for Putin vs a democratic country and it’s citizens.
The world has to find a stable path to nuclear and alternative energy. Without it, we are looking at more wars over oil and natural gas either by importing countries or exporting that just don’t like the geopolitical environment they are in.
The support for Russia here is very strange. They’re calling for a return to old-fashioned empires.
