Time to play Coaching Game

Ever notice that no one called Pederson, McDermott, Nagy and others gophers? I’m just going to leave it at that. I know you don’t mean anything by it, but I have always resented that knock on EB, despite other guys holding that role and STILL GETTING JOBS. Amazing how everyone else from that tree gets a job, except for Bieniemy…

I don’t play bs racial narratives if that what you mean.

Or maybe they just know he isn’t worth a damn…I know someone who is an NFL brass that doesn’t think highly of him. BUT…maybe you are right and I shouldn’t put too much stock in it. Maybe he could surprise me, and I’ll admit I have no reason to feel super strongly about it. I just trust my guy and we all know how hands on Andy Reid is with things. As for holding out for nfl maybe that’s the reason…no idea what his plans are.

He isn’t worth a damn, but Matt Nagy is? Let’s be honest: The NFL has a legit problem is hiring minorities, especially ones that demand the same treatment as everyone else. I doubt that Bieniemy is any less qualified than guys from that same tree, that have held the SAME POSITION. People love to say the “He didn’t interview well” nonsense, but complete turds get hired. You want to see a gopher, look at Judge in NY. He was a ST coordinator for the Pats. That guy gets a job

For all we know EB may fail at whatever job he gets, but him not even getting a shot is complete crap. Glorified office guys are getting NFL jobs, guys that failed at the CFB level are given jobs.

Nah…I believe you are full of shit and inflicting your bleeding heart on me in this conversation. Sick of race baiting and race hustling…What in the hell has Eric Bienemy ever done for me to act like I know why he isn’t being hired? How do you or I know how the interviews went? How do you know Andy Reid doesn’t call someone on the down low and be like “he’s a fuckin crutch I’m sick of him not retaining a damn thing I tell him”

It’s race baiting to point out the hypocrisy of the NFL and how they hire? Just come out and say it, it bothers you that someone dared to ask the question. I know, we should shut up and be happy with the scraps thrown our way, even when our labor dictates that we are getting hosed.

The day a Black coach can have the mediocre resume of a Kliff Kingsbury and get an interview, much less hired is the day I leave it alone. It will NEVER happen, so here we are. Look at what is happening with Flores in Miami. He washes out, he will NEVER get a HC spot again, despite him showing a ton of promise. Amazing that no one ever questions that someone like Judge gets a spot. I wouldn’t be shocked even if he fails miserably, he lands somewhere and is able to get another spot years down the road. It’s happened far too many times for it not to.

If EB is such a crutch, as you hypothesize, why won’t Reid fire him? Why is Reid so quick to laud him in public and stand up for him? Something doesn’t make sense. I’m not saying that EB is a surefire star, but I also find it hard to believe he’s a worse interview than some of the complete idiots I’ve seen get jobs.

72 years ago, there was an assistant that took a job at West Point, knowing full well that assistants there always landed HC spots if they did well. He stayed there and noticed that everyone around him got jobs, except him. He interviewed at multiple places, and eventually a booster at Wake Forest told him “I don’t think that anyone will ever hire a coach whose last name ends in a vowel”. That coach’s name: Vince Lombardi. I’m convinced that what guys like Bieniemy and others are facing is just the 21st century version of that.

As I said before, I don’t think you are that kind of person, but I do find it odd that the things said about certain coaches aren’t said about others, when it would be more than apt. No one calls plays as the OC under Reid. No one, yet is is seen as a flaw for Bieniemy and no one else. The question is why?

What in the living fuck are you talking about? What question? What proof do we have that Eric Bienemy is worth a shit

So now you are crying about Flores before it happens? I’m confused…Most people I know including myself are impressed with resume and early returns. I heard all offseason what a great hire he was in the media…It’s the nfl…you lose a few in a row and you are going to feel some heat. He’s also in a city that seems to want to fire everyone all the time.

I didn’t say he was…I gave a possible scenario. One you can’t refute. And they are Idiots by your estimation. Our opinion doesn’t matter…We aren’t the interviewer/owner…

Convinced huh? Lol…my god the mental gymnastics.

If a coach exhibits talent, it does not remain a secret for long. The number of African American coaches is growing. It would seem this process is tortoise slow, but in reality it is not. For example, when I attended the UM in 1961, there was not an African American player on the team. Nor were there any at UF, FSU, or anywhere in the South. Now, you look at the teams whether college or pro, they are dominated by minority players, especially by African-Americans.

Football coaches recognize talent. The game revolves around this ability. Teams are ranked according to their records and perceived strength. The same goes for people. A general rule of thumb is that you are only as good as your record, but there’s an exception to the rule. If your team regularly upsets hugely favored teams, it is not an anomaly but an indication of excellent coaching.

Nothing is more satisfying in the eyes of most Americans than to see a guy from a humble background rise like a phoenix and distinguish himself as a winner. The rate of change with respect to diversity has greatly accelerated, and the criteria for advancement less and less are a matter of skin hue, but of merit and achievement. Understandably, qualified candidates are overlooked. Young African Americans are deservedly torqued about such situations, but there is no substitute for merit, and eventually the cream does and will rise to the top. Admittedly, the process is slow, but it is accelerating.

I always enjoy Canedude’s posts. He knows his x’s and o’s, and he writes both deftly and authoritatively.

The key to success as a manager/coach is not how bright YOU are …it is HIRING BRIGHT PEOPLE to work FOR YOU. Black ,white brown and every color in-between are subject to that .

Miami has gone from scouting for the next brash obscure hungry young coach…to shopping for “the ready-done” product. Can it really get much worse than what we are enduring/have endured ?! When did we last have a coach that injected real life into the sidelines ?

Fickell

Made this revised list today out of boredom in my phone…Not much different than my original list but has taken some input from all of your as well as 2-3 weeks worth of CFB developments. Separated into groups. Again, I don’t know who is available interested NFL.

Power 5 (I prefer P5 HC experience, no order, regardless of $)

Kiffin
Stoops
Clawson
Kleinmann
Schiano
Halfley
(I didn’t include Campbell, I think he’s headed elsewhere, and I don’t think Cristobal is affordable, I would take either although I think Campbell is a better coach)

NFL
Quinn (This may be a decent fit imo…I like his toughness and I think UM needs that, as long as they stay with an innovative YET BALANCED offensive OC)
Bienemy

G5
-Fickell (probably in a group of his own at least according to accomplishments…but not sure he’ll be affordable either as he will probably have his pick)
-Napier (B2B wins over app state to get that monkey off his back, would need right coordinators)
-Deboer ( I think has major major potential, my favorite “gamble”)
-Chadwell
-Holtz (I know that name is hated by UM fans, but I like his body of work and he takes big boys to the wire EVERY year…This year it was Miss St and NC st on the road)
-Dykes

My all around top 5 from all realistic names (and again there may be some great fits in NFL, I’m just not including a Kellen Moore bc I think his next stop his CLEARLY NFL HC, and I wouldn’t know where to begin with who is interested)

  1. Campbell ??
  2. Quinn
  3. Kiffin??
  4. Clawson
  5. Cristobal ??
  6. Stoops
  7. Fickell
  8. Deboer
  9. Schiano
  10. Dykes

Quinn is intriguing. even though he has that 28-3 superbowl blunder on his resume, he still did get the falcons there. also he has experience recruiting florida.

i definitely can get behind a hire like this.

I wouldn’t go near Quinn. Known as a “player’s coach” throughout tenure in ATL. Also, from the school of soft knocks via Pete Carrol. We don’t need a player’s coach. Would get eaten up in South Florida recruiting

I didn’t know that…I thought it was opposite with him. Hard-nosed.

BC I definitely agree with you. We need some toughness

Forgot Brahm in my updated list (included in original) Big win for him today. They had tons of covid problems last year (more than the average team)…I’d still take him.

Someone said his name today.

Hard pass.

Kiffin prob wouldn’t get us a ring. And there would be some crazy middle of the night leaving us in 4 years…but it would be a fun 4 years and at least we wouldn’t look like such pussies.:joy:

I wouldn’t rule it out. And there are still some red flags with him imo…

BUT, if you are getting Kiffin for Diaz price or slightly more, it’s a no brainer.

I like some thing Diaz has done, and I don’t think he’s “lost the locker room”, we fought hard and totally shut UNC down 2h…I just don’t have faith he can get us to a level we need to be at.

“tackling” tends to be a fan cliche complaint, it isn’t on this team. The tackling is a fucking joke man, my god.

If I’ve got time today I’ll dig up the yards per first quarter. I bet that’s an astonishingly embarrassing stat too.

Someone asked in the game thread if they even have practice during the week. I’m starting to wonder if they even script a gameplan.

DO SECOND HALVES AND SEE WHAT THAT SAYS…

YOU WONDER WHY STORM MAKES FUN OF PEOPLE?

HOW IS THAT A SERIOUS STATEMENT?

WHY DOES THE EXPERT’S TEAM STRUGGLE?
