I think even the announcers are not sure what the fuck we’re doing.
TVD better not start another game.
I realize NC State has a pretty good D, but 6 points?? WTF?
I would start Emory or any other QB the rest of the year and not think twice about it. TVD is done. Completely gone.
I don’t really care if we lose our last three, you have to play the higher upside guy.
Couple quick thoughts
-
I never say to kick the FG, never kick short figs…But you gotta kick there, mid 4… In that type of game…Against a tough defense, and you have absolutely no recent history of being an offensive team worth a shyt. Kick and steal the game at the buzzer with a damn good kicker.
-
3rd and 7 or 8 or whatever than it was after they stop us inside 5. How does Guidry rush 3? He’s been excellent at times this year and he is building a defense for years to come. I love the attitude we are playing with on defense. But that decision was just horrible? How do you let him stay comfortable and pitch and catch dead smack in the middle of a soft zone?
-
James Williams has been excellent all season. Huge step forward for this kid…But that effort to tackle the back on the tack on td was a joke. You are in the middle of the field. No effort to wrap up at all….And along with other things,
-
TVD is LOST…1000% lost. Chuck Knoblauch/Mackey Sasser/Rick Ankle, etc…We better break Jacurri Brown packages out vs. FSU. We have very little to no chance with TVD dropping the ball, not knowing where to throw it, throwing it to the wrong team, and then being scared to death to throw the next pass. The kid is cooked…Unreal same kid that lit Tamu on fire.
I wish TVD had transferred to SMU. He’s awful.
I didn’t watch the game and won’t watch the “highlights.” But, TVD had 4 turnovers, 1 fumble, 3 picks. I saw the replay of one of the picks and it was a terribly forced and errant throw to a covered receiver. He pretty much lost the game all on his own.
He is graduating this year, Thank God. He failed miserably this year for whatever reason. I think other teams simply locked onto the fact he almost never looks off his primary and defend accordingly. Add to that inaccuracy and poor decisions and it doesn’t end well.
TVD should be benched. I know they wanted to redshirt the younger QB’s but it isn’t fair to the team to send out a QB who just plain sucks. FSU will beat Miami by 30+ points next week. L-ville by 20+. Miami has a chance against BC and probably finishes 7-5, could have been 8-4 except for the absolutely retarded decision not to take a knee against GT. I had NC State away as one of several 50/50 chance games this year. The only real surprises so far were losing to GT and beating both TAM and Clemson.
Most of us called a 7-5-ish season so pretty much what we expected. 6-6 is totally possible given the trend.
Dawson has to be on the hot seat. He is looking like a bad hire. The team can’t score and the starting QB blows. Plus, he blew the GT game if he called for the handoff instead of simply kneeling down to end the game.
I am truly trying to understand Tyler?? What is it? Have the injuries truly f’d him up this bad? How do you start like he did, to what we have seen lately? Straight nightmare, he can’t start or play anymore.
He’s become Rosier without the running abiilty.
I just watched a tape of the game; I wasn’t able to watch live. Van Dyke played an abysmal game, even a worse one than last week. Our offense blows.
With our offensive line, we should be able to run the ball, but you cannot expect a ground game without deception, and Miami fools no one. I hate the one back offense, especially when there is nobody in motion. Even worse for a poor executing team is the no back offense. In the red zone, I really despise the one back scheme. When watching a good offense, it’s not uncommon to be fooled by a QB’s slick handling of the ball. Sheesh, my grandmother could detect who has ball possession on the sickening number of our unproductive runs into the middle of line. Such plays are nothing more than validation of the definition of insanity. Run a stupid play over and over but expect different results.
Miami has to go back to basics. We need to stop being so damn pass happy. We have the bodies wherein we should be able to steam roll opponents, that is, successfully play smash mouth football. Against Virginia in overtime, we played smash mouth and won the game. This team needs to double team block at the point of attack. No matter how good a defender might be, that defender can be overpowered by double team blocking. Time to go back in the past and recover some blocking schemes that knock opposing player completely out of the play, pancaking them into the turf. UM has some really talented backs who should consistently be averaging five or more yards per carry.
Long down field pass completions should be figments of our imagination until we can execute the basics. Why is it so hard for this team to throw a QUICK slant on third and long? Hard to sack a QB throwing QUICK darting passes. We have a bevy of tight ends whom we hardly use; we’d be better putting offensive tackles on the line if we’re just going to use them for blocking.
Why the hell do we have so many third and longs? If you win on first down, you can actually open the playbook. We’re always playing from behind, consistently faced with 3rd down which require executing a lengthy play. When it is third down, any play where a receiver doesn’t run past the first down marker should have that receiver summarily riding pine on the bench for being STUPID.
Speaking of arrant stupidity, I cannot forget the Georgia Tech give away game. Sorry folks, but it is one of the worst blunders in college football recent history. It was awful. Mario wants a physical team, and he has one on the defensive side of the ball, but we’re milquetoasts on the offense, don’t fool anybody, don’t mow anybody down, don’t rip off yardage playing a smashmouth game.
Lastly, we need a QB with an arm who has quick feet. This should be our No. 1 recruiting target. I don’t see THAT player on our present roster or among our recruits.
Can’t explain it
Chuck Knoblach/Rick Ankiel type stuff
And now he’s frozen and scared to death
Don’t get me wrong…Dawson hasn’t been great either. But TVD is the #1 problem.
You can’t have him on the field. He’s a huge liability against anyone with a pulse. You can see they are trying the easy screens for him but those only work so many times.
Any other option would be better right now. It might actually create an element of surprise against FSU too.
You have to play Jacurri Brown for at least 10-15 plays against FSU…Maybe more. Only option is to ground and pound right now
Don’t get me wrong, it has to be a little more creative, and it’s unfathomable to me that Brassard Smith can’t get a touch after going 80 yards against Clemson
Smith
J.Brown
Fletcher (some Henry Parrish is needed for a change of pace)
Excellent point on Brashard Smith. Smith is FAST and shifty and should get a lot more touches. I think he’s got a pro career ahead of him, certainly on special teams.
In the college game mobile QBs are a valuable commodity. Jacurri has foot speed, and there is no reason he cannot dunk and dink throwing SHORT slants, flairs, outs and button hooks. Also, we need to identify blitzers on the defense and hit them with some shuffle passes as they run by. I think we should throw two or three shuffle passes a game. It’s a tricky play and makes DLs feel helpless as the ball goes right by them. Jacurri should not be throwing deep passes until he demonstrates control of the short passing game. I prefer Jacurri rolling out rather than taking any deep drops.
Emory Williams still looks green to me. He has a live arm and throws a nice deep pass, but like TVD, he doesn’t move gracefully. In my eyes, he still not ready to take over. Eventually, he could mature into something along the lines of a Ken Dorsey who was a great and steady team manager, emphasis on “mature.”
Van Dyke has never been the same since Gattis. If I were coaching Van Dyke I’d have him getting rid of the ball as fast as possible, quick reads, and if nobody is open throw it away. Van Dyke thrived under Lashlee whom I think is an excellent offensive coach. Notice how many players followed Lashlee to SMU. Obviously, he was a good people guy and did not ragging on players as Gattis did.
With respect to blocking, I think knocking people over using double teams builds confidence. Knocking a star player into the dirt is always pleasant for the fans as well. IMO, there is no reason why UM should not be better than average rushing the football. We have more than capable RBs and our offensive line has some size and toughness. What we don’t have is deception and acceptable blocking at the point of attack. I’ll guarantee there are not a lot of entries on the UM Pancake Census. If I had it my way our QBs would be bewildering television cameramen. As my old friend and head coach Carl Madison who won state championships in three states said: “If you fool them, you don’t even have to block them.” Carl was the greatest high school coach I ever met. He ranks as the second winningest coach in Florida high school history.
Miami has a good run blocking offensive line. You have to rely on the run with this team. The biggest issue with Van Dyke and I saw it his first season is he locks onto his first read. He is best buds with Xavier Restrepo which makes it worse. Xavier should be a #4 or #5 guy at Miami…not their go to guy. I never undestood Smith not playing more on offense. I would put him inside at the slot spot and get him the ball like they do with Xavier. You will see more big plays. Miami is still another class away. They need play makers at WR and some shut down corners on defense.
TBH, I have always felt this way.
I used to feel that way about Devin Hester. The guy was lightning in a bottle when he got the ball in his hand and it always puzzled me that he was not getting enough touches on offense. The rumors I’d read/heard were that Hester could never command the playbook well enough to significantly contribute to the offense.
The last 4 ACC games TVD played, which excludes Clemson, QB play was awful.
All 4 of those games were struggles because of QB play, both turnovers, staring down receivers leading to batted down passes, and anemic play calling to rein in a QB.
Of those 4 games, if we have a normal QB in there, we win except for North Carolina. They played well that day and would have beat us regardless of TVD.
It is hard to blame Dawson. We have seen glimpses of good stuff, solutions to previous problems. I don’t know if he’s at fault for GTech or not. But I’m willing to give Dawson time. The fact is he is hamstrung with TVD, to the point where we can’t even run hurry up anymore.
I don’t know what it is but TVD should have been benched for half of GTech, and also half of NC after poor performance. Then after Clemson we should have started the new guy.
Now we need to face FSU like this??? It’s just an awful position to put our team in.
I saw the press conference with TVD and he looks and sounds like a guy that has no idea what’s happened to him. No confidence at all. He’s just thoroughly confused.
I don’t see that getting fixed in a week.
Why would it get fixed in a week? It’s been going on for a month. He’s shell shocked out there.
Elite80 made a great point. TVD depends too much on his buddy and roommate Restrepo. Question. What does Shannon Dawson have against throwing to TEs? TVD is throwing three INTs a game. I shudder to think about the FSU game.
The Restrepo thing is weird because TVD has not been targeting him a lot lately. It’s hard to blame this relationship for TVD’s struggles. The dude just stares down his receivers.
Do we not want Emory to play? I see alot about J. Brown but not much about Emory?
Yeah, TVD is shot. It’s almost like he just needs a team intervention to calm him down. Something has gotten into his head. We know that he CAN play and play great, he had a great year under Lashlee, great game against TAMU but I don’t get how you lose confidence that quickly? Something else is going on, me thinks.
FSU will eat us alive again this year, I think.
