Knighton
I kinda figured both he and Chaney wouldn’t be on the roster.

Jordan Miller, I expected this early…but was hoping didn’t happen after losing Jackson. Big hole at DT, as it’s went from strength to top heavy/thin next year and big ? moving forward.
I think it’s fair at this point…That maybe Coach Joe is a clash personality wise with a lot of these guys? One position we haven’t killed it at recruiting wise is DT (I do like the Horton pickup)…And now 2 of the GUARANTEED top 4 in our rotation transfer out?
I mean I guess there’s a chance we told Miller thanks but no thanks (I personally don’t think so) but even if that was the case a week ago…I don’t think we’d do it after losing Jackson? And I don’t think Lichenstein surprise stay makes up for either of these guys.
Add Brinson to the list
Are we up to 15 or 16 defections now?
5-7 record; how many of those kids do you really want to keep around?
More should be shown the door.
I wanted Jackson and Miller.
Up to 16 by my count. Expect another 10 minimum
Ya not many
Biggest Loss: Jackson
Mild Loss: J.Miller (More so because Jackson left)…So to answer your question I would say one of those two only.
6 months ago I would have said Knighton and at least one of Brinson/Key Smith, and while I couldn’t have minded 1 or 2 of them staying. Same with Roberts based on potential alone. Franklin maybe but not now, he looked extremely slow this year.
Are today’s “perennial top 10’s” experiencing the same type of turnover? Just curious. Would also be interested in data that indicates whether or not the transfers end up being “successful” for the kids.
Regardless, it’s a whole new world. So far, I don’t really love it.
Blow this whole god damned team up. Start from scratch. Bring in as many new bodies that have talent and want to work as possible.
Stay away from the prima donnas and clout chasers. They poison the program.
Good observation. I think there are prob a couple populations though. I can see some top 10 like bama or Georgia who have 25% of the roster leave BUT make impacts elsewhere. That’s a stark contrast to a program that has 25% leave who never go on to play another down. We’re def in the latter category. Bad evals vs bad development
Bama has a number of them especially on offense. Here are some:
OSU has 2, UGA has 1, Michigan has a few, Clemson is similar to Bama with 8
Yup ama and a few other big name, ranked type teams are in double digits already.
Miami needs to dump Gattis. Our offense was horrible this year. I hope Tyler VanDyke can recover from the beating he took this year. We need a QB coach who can turn Jacurri into a QB. Jacurri certainly has the wheels to be a winner, but not the arm or the coaching. Winning teams play with poise. I didn’t see that poise this year, and we certainly didn’t win. Winning teams have BOTH a rushing and passing attack. Winning teams have their way on third and short situations. Winning teams employ motion and most of all deception. Fooling defenders is a helluva lot easier than blocking them. Hearkening back to my youth when I coached one year with the great Carl Madison, IMO the greatest HS coach in Florida history, Carl used to preach two things: double team blocking and backfield deception. Carl said, even two ordinary guys can double team and block an All American, and when the other team is tackling a guy without the ball, your team is playing winning football. Miami fools nobody.
Just look what Josh Heupel did at Tennessee or what Sonny Dykes did at TCU. Mario has some hard decisions to make. His constant litany about being physical also never materialized. Compare Miami’s offensive line with those of Michigan or Utah. Watching their offensive lines was watching a thing of beauty, lots of people getting knocked around like bowling pins. Boy, do we have a linebacker problem as well. How in the world did we wind up with so little talent at LB?
Time to open the NIL wallet and fill our deficiencies while at the same time culling the herd of players without commitment to playing winning football.
I’ve been watching the positions that have left via portal and most are D guys. What is it? 4 now that are from the DL alone, or 5? 4 safeties, 2 DB. Interestingly enough I don’t see an OL guys gone.
Between recruiting and college FA (portal) we need that Dline back in shape.
Count me in the camp that is a little worried right now. Gattis was awful and needs to go. I get that he has a nice pedigree, but as you parse through that record there is a fair amount of suggestion that he’s simply a product of the environment (e.g. not a guy that excelled despite the environment).
So why am I worried? Well, there is a fair amount of movement in OCs who have excelled despite their environment. The pickings are just going to get slimmer the longer this takes. There are a good # of low end school positions that have opened up (coastal carolina, liberty, Kent St)…but his name is never rumored as a possibility, so what is the chance of him getting “hired away”? Then he comes public with comments “I ran an extremely limited playbook this year, looking forward to opening it up like Michigan next year”. At first blush I thought “great, sour grapes…he’s out!”. But now I’m wondering if the alternative is really that Mario handcuffed the playbook this year (sinking the season) and has guaranteed Gattis he has a job and autonomy next year.
I dunno, if it was really Mario sinking the offense though, wouldn’t he have publicly said “I made this decision, it’s on me, Gattis has my full confidence going into next year”?
/I hate being a Miami fan.
This is very similar to my Steelers situation with Matt Canada. His offense stinks! It’s been a few years for him now though and I don’t see much improvement. We Steelers fans want him gone.
Gattis gets one more year for me. He said that we didn’t have the personnel needed to run his scheme. Between recruiting and the portal we shall see if we get the right guys for his scheme.
Steelers fan here… Canada needs to go… He’s needed to go for a while now.
Balom in the portal now…good lord the attrition in the secondary…
Safeties: Kinchens, M. Williams, J. Williams, Balom
CB: Porter, Graves, Curtis, Couch, Harris
I always thought Balom could become a top 3 safety on this squad…Just never came together and beat up last 2 years.
It’s interesting to see which positions are leaving. Mostly DL and DB guys. Coach/payer personality clash?
But, at the same time, we knew that MC wants to overhaul the roster so this exodus is to be expected.
Some OL need to clear some room
Four min!
