There was never truly any smoke.
The Mueller investigation centered around firing James Comey. But anyone who understands constitutional law would have understood that the President can fire any federal employee he wishes to fire, including the FBI Director. Moreover, he never stopped the investigation that was under Comey’s direction. So there’s that one.
Impeachment II- Trump as President of the United States has plenary power in foreign policy. His statements to the Ukrainian President were not only legal, but they didn’t even rise to the level of violating any statute or impropriety. It was all captured on tape in the light of day.
Even the NY investigation into his finances appears to be bunk. If they had something they’d have dropped it already. The best they could come up with is threatening his former financial firm to say his practices of valuating properties (an imprecise method to begin with…. I’m a real estate appraiser with knowledge here) was unethical. But they themselves accepted them when doing his taxes. If they were so bad, why didn’t they protest then? Why didn’t they resign and alert the IRS or FBI?
So keep on hating Putin but loving your establishment American Government who does the same thing as Putin to outsiders, but in a much more sanitized way so you can not only enjoy it, but defend and cheer it on.

-He views Biden as weak
-He knows the US has no appetite for another armed conflict at the moment
-But the biggest reason (and I think Putin has made it obvious) - he ultimately wants the countries back that were all part of the Soviet Union before it fell.
