At least, Mario et al. had the sense not to allow Van Dyke to pass the ball during overtime. Van Dyke had a poor showing, displayed bad judgment, tried to force the ball into covered receivers hoping for a 50-50 result when he should have thrown the ball away.
Mark Fletcher is the real deal, great size and is capable of making elusive moves. Reuben Bain is already the best player on this team. I hope the hell we can keep him; I believe with NIL, he’s going to get bum rushed by other teams.
There’s no way to handicap this team. They have a great deal of talent on both sides of the ball. My greatest criticism is the lack of motion and deception on offense, not developing a vaunted rushing game which I think this team is capable of producing. We’re a helluva lot better than last year, but I’ve lost faith in Van Dyke wondering what Van Dyke is going to show up for every game. He’s still our best bet QB, and I have no idea whether Emory is going to mature into a top flight QB.
Point well taken that Clemson is not the formidable team it has been in past years. I still stand by my pre-season prediction that FSU wins the NC. It takes a lot of points to beat FSU; their offense is very productive.
Louisville has appeared out of no where. Hard to believe they were beaten by Pitt which has struggled this year. I think Stork prediction for the rest of the season is a reliable forecast.
I don’t think it’s time to write Alabama off the NC quest. The Tide defense has three of the best LBs in the country. Their defense is capable of keeping them in most games. They’ll be tested severely by LSU which has a highly productive offense. It looks to me like the SEC will be Georgia vs. Alabama.
This is off topic, but please take a look at Cameron Scattebo of Ariz. State. He’s a phenomenal back, yet his team loses because his coach is pass happy. If they gave the ball to Scattebo thirty times a game, they’d be winning. Their loss to Washington was nearly as bad as ours to GT. They gave away the victory.
It would be interesting to see if we could get a duel duel threat qb in the portal for next year. That could spark something interesting for the offense.
Well, we won. That much at least showed me the grit that our team has. We are going to need it for this next stretch.
When TVD is on, he’s fire! When he’s off, well…He’s either really good or really bad. I like Emory, good arm, good size…
We have a great Oline, a very good stable or RB’s, some very under used TE’s, good WR group.
Our Dline is good, LB play is good, DB play is…eh…not sure yet and we have two potential first round safeties.
Special teams are also good.
Just a matter of putting it all together, obviously. I think we need to be more ground and pound and give TVD or Emory the easy throws to make until they get into some sort of groove.
