This is just bluster. There’s no way Russia is going to actually take on NATO.
Still, this is strategic bluster. The whole point is to harrass ex-Soviet states, to paint a picture of persecution, build a narrative of us versus them against NATO, and to look for appeasement elsewhere. Russia likes to throw a lot of shit at the wall to see what sticks. Even NATO’s response to this will work in their favor. More troops building up helps Putin sell the ever present threat to their livelihood.

Putin is the voice of moderation among Russian pols. Were Putin removed, I fear Russia would fall under aggressive hard-liners. Like Trump, Putin is an excellent executive. I have read a great deal of Putin’s writing. His goal is to unite Russian speakers displaced by the break up of the Soviet Union. He has no ambitions about invading the Baltic States or any of the former satellite nations of Eastern Europe except for Diniestria section of Moldova, already administered by Russians and protected by Moscow. Putin will not pull the Red Army out of Ukraine until he achieves the goals of the SMO. Once the Nazis are disarmed and removed from influence in Ukraine, the country will be partitioned, large parts of which will be subsumed by Russia.
Putin will never relent. Russia is doing just fine in spite of sanctions which are hurting both the U.S. and NATO. Forcing Russia into the Chinese realm of influence is beyond ordinary foolishness. Only an idiot like Biden would fritter away Ukrainian lives in OUR war against Russia. Our stance is immoral and it is NATO not Putin that abrogated past agreements about the status of Ukraine. NATO forced Putin’s hand, and NATO European nations cannot withstand the coming winter, especially if Putin cuts off the pipelines completely. The ball is in NATO’s court. Putin is quite comfortable having his way in Ukraine. Europe however is falling the hell apart, waiting for Washington to order Ukraine to surrender. Something has got to give before winter. IMO, Europe will tell the idiot Biden to go suck lemons, and pull NATO command away from Washington.
Blame liberals for the war in Ukraine that would not have been allowed to happen under the GREAT Donald Trump. It took liberals to engender the conflict that has unleashed a war NATO cannot win. The economic crisis in Europe is going to splinter NATO, and European nations will revolt against being vassals of the U.S. Europe really has no choice about ending the Ukraine War. To Europe ending the conflict is an existential imperative. In the end, Ukraine will be yet another spectacular Biden failure.
