You mean with things like science, math and biology? Oh, the horror of an educated electorate…the death knell to the GOP.
Teach your horseshit at home. Public schools should have basic curriculum of accepted facts and whether you want to be a moron at home or not, shouldn’t affect what’s taught in schools.
When I was in 5th grade I remember going through sex ed. My parents had to sign a permission slip. I remember one of my classmates, who moved here with his family from Iraq, would get up and leave to go work on other things. Clearly his parents were not comfortable with their son learning sex ed in that setting and wanted an alternate way to teach him, based on whatever values they held.
What’s wrong with this?
Well, and therein lies the problem. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but obviously there are people who disagree on some “accepted facts.”
Not sure I think anything is wrong with them pulling their kid out of it. I do have a problem with the people who force the cancellation of the class in general bc they don’t agree with it, which happens frequently
No…With men giving birth
That’s the kicker. You don’t get to disagree on accepted facts. You don’t get to go to school and argue basic punctuation. You can think whatever the fuck you want, but on the test, there is a right and wrong answer. If you don’t accept “accepted facts” go fuck yourself. Teach your kid at home what you disagree with or pull them out for some con-artist charter school where they can make things up.
China doesn’t disagree on accepted facts in education. Germany doesn’t. There’s reason we have two generations of morons who are so self entitled and narcissistic that they think they’re opinion trump centuries of scholarly work. If you disagree with photosynthesis, fine, but the test doesn’t change and nobody cares. Nobody gives a shit if your parents think Copernicus was wrong.
It is what it is. Learn it. Period. Argue with the mirror at home
It’s an emoji. Grow up. Does poop talk? Well, the emoji talking poop talks. There have NEVER been such whiny little snowflakes as today’s conservatives.
From Dr Suess to Santa Claus to emojis…just in total victimhood meltdown over nonsensical things 100% of the time
I didn’t say anything about it…Just setting you and your dramatic over-generalizations straight
Lol seriously? Do you have kids?
Do you have any experience with what public schools are teaching now? If they stuck to math, science, and reading that would be awesome. The problem is that many public schools are dumpster fires.
That’s why the parents want a say.
Huh?
In terms of the basics (reading, writing, math science etc), there should be a basic curriculum. But there are other subjects that are a lot more controversial. Obviously CRT Is one of them. I don’t subscribe to it and I don’t want my kids feeling guilty for who they are.
Literally a parents first job for their kids (other than keeping them alive) is to teach them.
CRT isn’t taught in public schools. Period. Your kids should know basic American history even if it makes them feel uncomfortable. No need for country-wide propaganda so you kid’s feelers can be intact. The only reason they would feel “guilty” is if you’re still teaching the same shit at home. If you or your kids feel guilty because we had slavery, that’s your problem. Reality is reality and we should teach real history
Spend some time at home teaching it more deeply and maybe they won’t feel guilty. “Let’s all pretend” is a pretty shitty way to parent, I would think.
This isn’t 1920. The world is much more complex than math, science and reading. China doesn’t stop at Math, Science and Reading. What, are your kids stuck in 2nd grade? Grow up. The reason our school system sucks is parents like you thinking you can enforce your belief system into public education and not allowing teachers to teach.
I mean, hell…GSC doesn’t think the earth revolves around the sun and isn’t sure the earth is round. You want his input into your child’s science class?
I find it unfair that you would accuse me or anyone else here of “pretending” something historical didn’t happen.
My apologies, it was meant (though not worded) in a more broad sense. I’m arguing the issue as a whole. I have no idea what you, personally, are doing.
I’ve got no problem at all with the hard sciences. Political agenda and woke stuff can stay out. That’s where the parents can and should have a say.
You are stuck in the stone ages thinking public education is still solid. It’s not. It sucks in a lot of cases. Do you think politicians are sending their kids to public schools?
But, there is it is again. Is “woke” acknowledging some people are gay and there’s nothing wrong with that? Is “woke” acknowledging racism exists and everything from decades or red line laws and the like still have impacts on the world around us? What about Columbus? Should we teach what Columbus DID or what makes us feel good with a neat story? Columbus was so terrible, he was put in prison for war crimes in the early 16th century. Think about that shit you’d have to do in order for Spain to put you in prison for being too mean. What about Paul Revere vs the real Paul Revere, Israel Bissell? Is it woke to teach the actual story vs a fairy tale? With regards to political agenda, what about evolution? Is teaching evolution within the context of a political agenda? Lots of right wingers simply don’t believe it. Hell, GSC shows you that some are still fighting 15th century battles against Copernicus and literally 600 years of scientific exploration.
So, what’s “political agenda” and what’s not could be debated. How about teaching what’s true? The Civil War being about slavery is simply true. Pretending the Lost Cause is real just isn’t. But, we should teach what the Lost Cause theory is.
I think public education sucks because we allowed parents to become arbiters of what’s true and what’s not, allowed the attack on public education by politicians who’s ulterior motive is to crush public education in favor of charter or religious schools. Why, because you can teach shit like Moses inspired the Constitution and what not in those schools.
As for politicians, no. They send their kids to schools where they tell the parents to fuck off. They pay a lot of money for real education while trying to dismantle YOUR education, or mine rather - I went to public schools.
Maybe the issue, 84, is timing. I realize this is an obvious example, but when we were children we were taught that Columbus landed and that they and the Indians all sat at a table and had dinner.
Obviously as children, teaching the the details of what really happened is a little much. But as we got older (and thus could take and understand it better), we were told what really happened.
I see what you’re saying. I for one could never understand the animosity towards and discrimination of anyone (we’ve had many conversations on this board about gays).
But with every “controversial” issue you’ll ha be differing viewpoints - viewpoints that parents want to teach our kids.
