SMU Game 12 Noon EDT

You guys still think Beck is not a problem???

I’m actually surprised Dawson put the game in Beck’s shaky hands. He was doing great running it up the middle so now he decides to throw.

Was the unnecessary roughness call that saved SMU legit? I didn’t see it.

A FG wins it for SMU.

If Miami loses this game, Dawson will be fired at season’s end.

This season is over. No playoffs, no ACCCG, Lose the Toilet Bowl.

What else is new???

This is loss is mostly on Beck, Dawson and the offense’s inabilty to score against a mediocre defense. The defense gave up 20 points in regulation even with Miami’s offense’s 3 and outs and Miami still lost. This is the opposite of last season when the offense could score and the defense couldnt stop anyone.

Anyway, I’m done. They can lose out for all I care.

This season is basically over. What bowl game awaits us.

Beck cant make that throw. I dont even know why you throw there. He needs to be benched.

I said that after L-ville and was told I was crazy.

Who’s the last team to out rush a team 159 to 23 and lose that game?

Miami Hurricanes - snatching defeat from victory since 2003.

At no point during this game should the Mustangs have won. UM played lazy and undisciplined. They had no urgency. Every offensive series was treated like there’d be 10 more. We got stuffed on 3rd and 4th and short several times.

There was also so much bad luck that made this a Cinderella game for SMU.

If Mario didn’t call that time out, SMU loses the game on a 4th and long. So, even though it wasn’t an egregious decision like the GTech game last year, we can once again say Mario directly lost the game in the final seconds AGAIN.

Just a bad game all around. Really.

CMC is an elite recruiter, can establish a great culture but is a mediocre, at best, gameday coach. He does understand, I believe, that he has to be better but he just isn’t getting better. He was smart enough to know to change the DC, revamp the secondary. I give him credit for doing those things. He seems alot like the coach of my Steelers, Mike T…he will keep you above 500 but that’s about it. No ACC Championship game AGAIN for us this year and we are most likely now out of the CFP.

Just a very disappointing past few weeks.

Thats a horrible loss. You have to score in the red-zone. Also the play calling by Dawson today was fireable. You cant allow beck to throw anything there outside a fade to the back of the endzone.

Miami killed so many drives with penalties and mistakes. How many snap infractions are we going to have every game? You can’t lose a game like that. Inexcusable. They haven’t played a clean game all year.

I have said it before and I will say it again. A team of good players who play great together, can beat at team of great players who play good together.

Maybe this is the reason Miami starts losing in the later part of the seasons. In the beginning of the year other teams are new and not playing well together and Miami has the talented enough players to just win. But later on in the year these other teams are playing together and they are beating the more talented Miami players. I believe this is due to coaching and making the players better. Is Miami doing that?

I turned it off after Dawson called a rush into the middle on a 4th down conversion play. It was just so damn obvious that Fletcher would get the ball. No play action, SMU stacked the front, and Fletcher was stopped cold. I was hoping Beck would throw a slant to the TE on the play, but he called the play that SMU thought he would call, and it failed miserably.

At this time of year, there shouldn’t be procedural penalties. I didn’t see Lashlee’s team making such errors.

Mario still is poor at clock management.

Miami was a vastly superior team, and still managed to blow it. Miami would have been better off had they recruited Mendoza or Haynes King rather than Beck.

Dawson is swiftly turning into a Coker when it comes to offense. SMU’s D should have been ground into the dirt and as mentioned in another thread Dawson is more predictable than a German train schedule.

Just saw a stat that this was the 6th time under CMC that we loss when we were a double digit favorite.

No way to sugarcoat it. We blew this from a coaching and player execution standpoint.

I think this has become part of our problem…a stubbornness to keep doing the same thing over and over with the same results…insanity!

That 4th down “conversion” came down to Dawson relying upon our massive Oline to move a pile they didn’t seem to want to move. Very lazy in the rum game overall.

Procedural penalties is 100 percent on coaching and players and it starts with coaching. I think the relationship with Mario and Alex seems to be one where CMC doesn’t want to offend his friend? Get in the man’s face..enough is enough.

I spoke to someone today about this. Beck is the reason why Miami lost to Louisville and SMU. I thought Beck would be a good fit because of the OL and the weapons around him. Beck is just not good. Against Louisville - His only job is to try and get a TD but you have a FG in the back pocket. He is late and misses outside. Beck gets an interception. SMU - Once again - He makes a throw to Elijah Loftin that is not only late but behind him. Miami scores and goes up by double digits - The game is basically over. Instead he throws behind the receiver, he gets nailed and they end up not scoring a TD. Beck in overtime just needs to not throw a pick. He hesitates because he lacks the confidence he can make a play and doubles down my being late and gets intercepted.

I get everyone wants to blame coaching….Miami lost the Louisville and SMU games because the QB they paid a lot of money to come in has failed in the key moments…PERIOD. Cam Ward makes those plays last year. Mendoza makes those plays this year. Mensah at Duke makes those plays. Beck has lost his confidence and does not have the mentality of a winner. Dorsey was a winner. Beck is not a winner.

As for coaching - I like Dawson as a person but I now agree with Bikki. Zero motion and zero shifts. You have to move defenders. You have to get your play makers in space. My biggest issue with Mario is not his coaching on game days. I think that his game day coaching gets way overblown. It is coaching philosophy. When Jimbo was at FSU and he was doing well as their head coach - Jimbo understood one thing - the numbers - He would be up 9 points, 15 points…he always took field goals in the first half and not go for so many 4th downs. Don’t chase points. Mario has a conservative mindset but at moments does not play that way. It conflicts with his coaching style.

I think Mario biggest flaw is not his coaching on game days…It is his Philosophy - You can’t continue to play on margins week in and week out. The talent disparity that fans think exist - does not exist anymore. That is why every team in college football is beatable. Indiana is very good this year not because they have more talent than Miami - They don’t play within the margins. They blow teams out. Miami plays within in the margins and the reality is you are going to eventually lose if every game comes down to a 50/50 situation. You beat Florida, you beat ND….but eventually you lose some of those 50/50 games (SMU/Louisville).

Personally, I think Dawson needs to go to another school. Miami needs to hire Joe Craddock - He is tulanes OC. Guy is probably the best young OC in football. Good thing he likes to run…And he finds ways to RUN and is more creative in doing so than Dawson. It is fine that Mario wants to run the ball. You can run with tempo. You can create space in the run game. Dawson offense is more Air Raide and that does not fit with what Mario wants to do. I personally think that Mario hit a home run with the DC. As a coach he is willing to adapt and fire or let coaches go. Dawson did his job…he got Mario and Miami to a point where he can recruit good offensive players. Go and get craddock and watch Miami have the same impact on offense as he has on defense. Just think how good Miami’s DC would be if he was playing with 2-3-4 touchdown leads. He can’t be super aggressive because at times Miami offense slows down.

You can thank NIL and transfer portal for that. It has completely leveled the playing field. At the college level, it’s truly about how well a team is coached now more than ever.

I keep seeing people say Miami is not well coached, I disagree. In the Louisville game they came out and just had a good script. Once they game settled down, Miami did a good job of getting back into the game and should have won in the end. If not for a terrible pass to the outside where Beck was late, Miami ties or wins the game. Quarterbacks need to understannd the situation at that time.

The SMU game - if I have a beef against Mario and most coaches is not taking the three. He had a situation in the SMU game that if they take 3 SMU on their final drive needs 6. I like Miami’s chances of keeping SMU out of the end-zone. In overtime, Miami called the right play and the RB ran through the wrong hole. The play to Loftin before the half was a good call. The pass by Beck sucked and almost got the player killed. Miami scores and goes into half by 7 or more at that point it is a different game. In overtime they had the right call but once again Beck double clutches the ball and than doubles down with a terrible decision. The coaches did their job.

The main issue I have with Mario and his offense is they play within the margins. You need to jump on teams when you are better and make sure it does not come down to one possession. Beck is the problem….If Mensah or Mendozza is Miami’s quarterback they are unbeaten right now and fans are praising Mario. They picked the wrong QB to run the team.

I agree on taking the nearly sure three points more often. I know the analytics say to go for it but I hate not taking the points. I say this in just about every Miami game I watch.
