Portal Update

Lane collecting QBs like they were platinum bars.

LSU is going to be a hot spot with Lane there now.

As far as QB goes I would have to assume that since Simpson said no to the money and we haven’t really been too hot on anyone else that Nickel will be our guy next year.

I agree that we have been spoiled the last two years but Nickel WAS a great player in HS so one can only hope he’s been learning and developing…

Don’t underestimate the incoming freshman Dereon Coleman; he’s a baller.

Dante Moore just announced that he’s returning to Oregon. But they just signed Raiola. How’s that going to work?

Always remember Trent Dilfer won a Super-Bowl .

No long bombs. No darts or anything on a rope at all that season. Just short passes and hand-offs. Lane Kiffin is grabbing QB’s. and all the “flash” is off the table.

Still ..Cristobal may have an ace up his sleeve.

I believe this supports the thesis. Kid signs and expects to be groomed for a shot at the job. Then Oregon has The Man to come back for another season (which Moore needs). And Oregon brings in Dylan Raiola as heir apparent. Now, sure, it’s a competition. Nothing gets handed to you. But I’d guess part of Beaver’s recruitment pitch was Moore likely to go to the NFL, open competition. But bringing in Raiola has to sting.

That said, to be fair, I checked and the 2025 Oregon roster had SEVEN quarterbacks listed. Damn, that’s a lot. So that’s kind of on the Beaver kid (love the name). Still. There’s competition and then there’s competition. With seven QBs who is getting reps with the college club team? Makes you think they should have a JV.

FWIW, I checked also and before Beaver two Oregon QBs had already hit the portal – Luke Moga (three or four star depending) and Austin Novosad (four star 247). Curious what the other remaining QBs are thinking. In this day and age a fan has to be super macho to think a kid should stay and “compete” no matter what.

I do think and hope he has an ace up his sleeve. I doubt he is able to bring in transfer good wr with the hopes that maybe a underclass player will carry the program.

I narrowed it down to Miami and this is what it showed.

Portal closes today. Latest QB news relates to Duke’s Darrian Mensah being persuaded (by Miami) at the last moment to enter the portal. Rumors abound of Mensah being an 8 million QB. We’ll know how this one ends very shortly as closing time approaches. What a mess!

Mensah at miami…lol, mario playing chess while others playing checkers. My favorite qb. Miami will be the team to beat next year.

how the heck did we pull this off? my goodness

Fish, Mensah has officially entered the portal, You may get your wish, but the cost may approach 8 million bucks. This kid is EXACTLY what Miami needs. If Mensah comes, I think Emory may leave. Only an idiot wouldn’t love Mario Cristobal.

Mensah was hell at Tulane and carried Duke to an ACC championship. With our offensive line and his mobility, Miami will be explosive on offense. Let’s hope thing matrialize as we envision. Also, I hope we get that offensive lineman that’s leaning our way.

I hate to say it, but this thing could generate a lawsuit relative to contract law.

Oregon State should make an offer.

I’m stunned! Aren’t we still in a lawsuit vs. Wisconsin over Xavier Lucas? Fire up the griddle for another I suppose?

Mario: Nevin Shapiro? HOLD MY BEER!

Unreal!

I guess I’m a hypocrite if I resent Sark for stealing Cooper and Johnson, two high school players, out from under us if I’m also gonna be OK with what we’re doing to steer QBs to us, right?

Give me some time, I can rationalize it.

Yeah I hate college football today…. This is ridiculous.

But putting that aside

I like Mensah, I don’t love him. But has a chance to be one of the top 8-12 QB in CFB this year and it’s a nice get. Don’t get me started on us overpaying though.

All current names being mentioned updated above.

Mensah has something that we don’t…..an ACC championship. That winning also helped put us in this playoff that we’re still playing in. This thing is steeped in irony……and now we’re stealing him away from Duke- a five loss team who couldn’t possibly qualify for the playoff that we’re still in……and round and round it goes. We kind of owe Duke for beating Virgina thus getting us to the playoff…..so we paid them back by stealing their QB for ‘26……round and round indeed.

I have to call Lane Kiffin to figure out how to handle this.

do you think us waiting to the very last minute after striking out on our first options have anything to do with us overpaying?

One thing I really look for in quarterbacks now is anticipation. I am not sure there is a better quarterback in college football in this aspect. He throws the ball before the receiver breaks open. Look att he throw at 1:57 vs. Illinois. There are very few players who make this throw with the same type of accuracy. He completed 68 percent of his passes at DUKE….their receivers are not Miami good. There is no one close to Toney on their roster. Look at the ease he makes the back shoulder throws. He puts the ball where only his receiver can catch it. Also Mensah never looks uncomfortable playing QB. His head is always up. He keeps his eyes down the field. His head does not move. The ball placement is very impressive.

He threw for over 3900 yards at Duke. He had 34 TD’s and 6 Int.
