What a disgraceful performance from France at the opening ceremonies. A transgender freak show runway with a mocking of the Last Supper. Openly mocking Christians. I wonder if they considered mocking Islam as well? I think we all know the answer why they won’t do that.
As a Christian, I’m completely disgusted. They even had a little kid at that table too.
You do realize the Olympics came from Greece, right? Are you under the impression the Greeks were famous for their allegiance to straight, heterosexual relationships?
Whiny ass Christians always playing the victim while their priests and pastors rape kids
Nah- he’ll pontificate about how priests should be of the utmost moral character but school teachers entrusted with kids should get a pass or some bullshit like that.
@GardenStateCane: I keep saying that the individuals who perform the crimes, regardless of profession, walk of life, what have you, that person(s) should be held accountable and punished. Anyone that helps cover up a crime should be held accountable as well. It’s not limited to anyone. Somehow, that is seen as covering for them. I don’t get it.
It was the feast of Bacchus/Dionysus, not the last supper, to begin with. That’s why it had Dionysus on a platter at the end. The Olympics are from ancient Greece, hence the “Feast of Bacchus.” That’s why there were 16 people and not 13 like in the Last Supper.
Christians…fake victims to the end, always.
Still doesn’t change the fact that you’re more offended by an SNL sketch or an homage to something that has nothing to do with you or your religion about a painting of a moment in your religious history at an Olympic ceremony than you are about actual priests and pastors raping kids on a regular basis.
Wait, I have no idea what’s going on with the Olympics cause I don’t watch, but this sounds amazing.
Am I to understand that the opening ceremony featured a Feast of Bacchus and a bunch of Christians took offense thinking it was lampooning the Last Supper?
“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group. On the contrary, I think (with) Thomas Jolly, we really did try to celebrate community tolerance,” Descamps said. “Looking at the result of the polls that we shared, we believe that this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense we are, of course, really, really sorry.”
What you are to understand, 305, is that warden is a liar and will push his bias into anything when Christianity is involved.
I’m starting to wonder if he was one of the unfortunate alter boys and that why he hates the religion so much to slander it so often….
Dude is making up fairytales.
Just apologize. 83% of people polled said it offended them. That’s why they apologized.
Of COURSE it was a thing. OF COURSE the fake ass Christians cry foul and play victim, like always.
OF COURSE, they have no problem with the golden Trump statue at CPAC. OF COURSE, you never hear them making comments about how these posts are blasphemous
They apologize bc people were offended and that’s what you do. They, then, clarified it was not the Last Supper. THEN, they cite Nazi fascists like Marie Le Pen and her bullshit.
Only fake ass Christians see this and think it’s GOT TO BE ABOUT THEM, despite their being 16 people and not the 13 depicted IN THE PAINTING done in the 15th century. Once again, they show they know nothing about nor care about the substance of their professed beliefs, only the symbols.
Of course, then they blame the centuries of raping children by their church leaders and the covering it up by their church on the media…public schools…maybe Obama did it.
I didn’t watch the opening ceremony so I refrain from commenting other than agreeing with Warden that there is great hypocrisy in the history and even current practice of religion. Religion is just a bad idea. It’s mankind’s worst invention.
Of course. No one is perfect, so it’s impossible to practice what you believe 100%.
Are there some extremely hypocritical Christians, absolutely. But that doesn’t mean the teachings and overarching goals are bad.
It’s a weird argument, in my opinion, to say that you don’t like Christians because they don’t follow their religious teachings as well as they should. Not saying you, Bikki, just in a general sense.
I find religion in the main to have been a bad idea, however, I have some reverence for the teaching of ethics in some religions. Judeo-Christianity is significantly more ethical in its beliefs than Islam, which has invoked 1,400 years of discord and considers women as chattel. My profoundest hope for world sanity would be for Muslims to be less pious than they are instructed to be by the Koran. The Koran is extremely radical and non-amenable to change.
Obviously, a great number of people live according to their religious precepts and are exceptional citizens. However, politics is certainly a manifestation of religion, and unfortunately horrible crimes have been and are committed in the various names of God. Islam is a supremacist faith, many of whose aspirants are intent on conquering the world
I agree that he has a strong bias against the church, but on balance I’m leaning toward his interpretation of this event.
I was gonna post the pictures of Dionysus but saw Warden had that covered. This is clearly a tribute to the ideals of wine and partying. What I would like to see if the opposing view. Is there a picture that lampoons the Last Supper, or are people just being extra sensitive here?
Whether this opening celebration was in good or bad taste, I have to commend whoever came up with the ceremony. There’s no such thing as bad publicity, and a lot of people are talking about probably one of the most boring parts of the Olympics, so objective achieved.
I don’t think Sunday School for 5-7 yr olds counts as teaching “religious education.”
I can settle this very easily - I despise your religion, their religion and all other religions. I believe we are at our very worst as humans when we follow a religion
Curiously, it’s not the child rapists in the church or the church officials who spent decades covering it up or the church lawyers who attack the victims…It’s the ex-Christians/Catholics “that are the most vile.”
