It was 19 on one against the white girl. I wonder how many of the racist attackers were subjected to CRT in school. It happened in liberal Boston so it’s almost a given these children were helped along the path of racial enmity by their schools. What a travesty.
Once I was the disciplinarian of a school that was 90 percent African American. There were about eight or ten white teachers at the school. I shared discipline enforcement with another fellow who happened to be a retired Marine. During the first year at the school, my partner and I laid down the law, and when we suspended a student we notified the parents both by telephone and by mail. If we could not make contact, we sent out a truant officer. When suspensions were concluded, the student had to be accompanied by a parent or family representative to be reinstated. You cannot believe how many reverends brought kids back to school, and these reverends for the most part were really decent people.
As a high school dean, I attended every after school activity in which our school participated. I got to know many of the players on the athletic teams whom I wouldn’t ordinarily know because few of them were ever in trouble. That year, which was 1969, our school won the Florida High School State Basketball tournament with just a lone white boy on the team.
The principal of that school was almost like a father to me. Formerly a math teacher, he earned a doctoral degree in mathematics from the University of Oklahoma. His daughter was the valedictorian that year, and shockingly, she married a white boy who was valedictorian of another school. I was a member of a power lifting team at the time, and I talked my principal into being the first black member.
I distinctly remember that spring day of 1970 when my principal whom I loved died. He was only 49 years old and suffered a massive heart attack. The entire school was saddened, and the school PTA discussed a replacement for this stupendous man. My name came up at the meeting to serve as interim principal; I was nominated by an old dentist one of just two black dentists in our town. I was very grateful being considered for the job, but I had accepted a professorship at Pensacola Junior College for the next year. My colleague and co-disciplinarian became principal and remained principal of the school for the next two decades. During my entire tenure in the field of education, I scrupulously must have hidden my racism. It’s rather curious that I have finally learned of it fifty years later.
For liberals, racism is wholly important but dependent on whose ox is gored. If the perp is a black persons, racism can be excused as a result of systemic racism and white supremacy. But hell has no fury to liberals if the perp is a white guy. The Zimmerman case was a perfect example of skin color being the deciding, most important factor relating to any crime. As it turned out, George Zimmerman was neither a racist nor a murderer. It was a simple case of self defense. He successfully defended himself against a failed, racist, attempted murderer named Trayvon Martin. Today, Trayvon Martin is held in great esteem by many black people which is illustrative of a sickness that pervades our society.
