Everyone knows Congress doesn’t have the power to arrest people. But they do have subpoena power. And what happens when you ignore a congressional subpoena? You can be referred by the tongue DOJ - who does have the ability to arrest people. That’s precisely what happened in Bannon’s case.
So….sounds like in reality we actually know more than you do about the legal system. And of course we would - unlike you we don’t interpret how the legal system should work in our own interests.
What does this have to do with anything? It is a legal remedy to their problem. Isn’t that what matters?
Are you going to sit here and say just because something hadn’t happened in X years or decades that it is not valid? Are you honestly asserting that conservatives wouldn’t get caught in that net?
No because they reversed the normal process they take.
Usually it’s civil. They sue in court. Why escalate it to criminal when it never needed to go there lol.
Why take the most dramatic approach when there are more effective and lesser invasive ones for all parties?
This is the precedent THEY’VE set for decades. Now they’ve shirked it to make a political statement.
I’m asserting that if this were not Trump related it wouldn’t have gone in this direction.
And that is a shame because the last thing a governmental body should mix is politics with criminal actions. It’s what Banana Republics do to remain in power.
I never argued that they don’t have subpoena authority.
Listen you numbskull…. Bannon was a member of the Administration. He believes he was in possession of privileged information that he didn’t think was appropriate for him to share.
Some people will yell, “But Trump didn’t invoke the privilege!”
Doesn’t really matter because it’s not settled law. Just because a president doesn’t invoke the privilege doesn’t necessarily answer whether it’s unethical or not to share that information.
And they should have sued in court to compel Bannon. Instead they bypassed this step because they are aligning this with midterms.
Very easy to see this.
So I ask again- who is the last person that Congress criminally referred for contempt for refusing to testify?
Uhhh……because it needed to go there? They want information from someone regarding only the second non peaceful transition of power. You think addressing that civilly is the way to go?
Of course you would.
What? While Holder was not indicted, he was held in contempt. Stop acting like this is just a trump thing. Although, what he did was unprecedented.
I don’t have to speak for you. What you say yourself makes your hypocrisy very clear.
There sure is. You just don’t want to answer to it because it doesn’t fit your narrative.
I don’t need to have one in this case.
Face it. You have a hard on for Trump, you wish he was still president (and lost), don’t give a fuck that he tried to stay in power illegally and are butthurt that people are being held accountable.
Here’s a list of all those held in contempt of Congress since 1975. (By the way contempt and an indictment are not equal just in case you didn’t realize that.
And only 1 person was indicted. And it wasn’t for not complying. It was for lying/perjury.
So shove that up your ass why don’t you.
What morons that you can’t see this is 100% political.
It is a partial list and most people eventually comply you fucking idiot. They feign and then they comply in order to avoid indictment. Read the sources you post.
You mean how Bannon did as well? How he was trying to negotiate with them toward the end and then they dropped the hammer?
Wonder why they never did that in the examples I cited that you just admitted to.
Why can’t you just admit this is highly politically motivated? It’s not about truth. It’s not about justice.
It’s about silencing and oppressing all Trump supporters with power. Very simple calculus.
If this were anyone but Trump and his allies it would disturb you. But you want Trump and his people dead. You’ve said it. Your reason on this issue is guided by evil selfish intentions.
What you’re refusing to acknowledge is the seriousness of what happened. Trump will have a legacy alright. But not a good one.
I know you know how serious this is - but you refuse to admit it. Hence the committee. Hence the subpoenas. And hence the indictments.
So shove that up your ass.
He never does. It’s hilarious.
No he didn’t. He refused to comply and only offered to testify AFTER he was indicted. Fuck him.
It absolutely is. And you don’t get to say “it’s about truth” when you refuse to acknowledge that there wasn’t election fraud and that the riot was trump and his goon’s attempt to illegally stay in power. It’s why you say the rioters were all antifa.
You need to go to confession - because you’ve not had an honest moment with us (or yourself) ina very long time.
It was much much much less serious than the months of burning cities by the left and to date their hasn’t been one committee or indictment for the people who organized them…. Ahem democrats.
