Whether it was naivety or just blissful ignorance pre-youknowwhat, I don’t even want to read what most of the people on this board have to say. It’s one thing to think have differing opinions on opaque matters like if coaching or recruiting is more important, but when half the board things 2+2=5 it takes the wind out of the sales.
Mississippi has awesome JUCO talent which Alabama usually raids. You get in trouble in Tuscaloosa, and your sent to a nearby JUCO for redemptive purposes. This year, Leach took a lot of local JUCO guys. Leach is great at developing QBs. I believe he could have made a player out of Nkosi who really had a rifle arm. Layne Kiffin’s Ole Miss team has a good QB and can put up points. They will give Bama a good game.
Imagine the horror of spending money, time, and having to sit there surrounded by a bunch of inbreds for 6 hours. Do you sneak out early do you sit there and sulk? Do you hide in Bama gear? I can’t even imagine the horror.
It wasn’t too terrible overall. I got to spend some time with my Dad, who lives in Atlanta. Yeah we did leave around midway through the 3rd quarter.
What I cannot understand is WHY this situation is tolerated year after year. Obviously the school doesn’t give a final damn about it’s athletic programs or else Blake James wouldn’t still be athletic director. Wish we knew someone with authority that could shake this BOT up and get things together. Obviously they won’t listen to fans or alums (even former players). Don’t see anything changed any time soon with this clown show. Diaz isn’t a Div. 1 HC by a long shot. The main problem, however, is Blake James, who isn’t qualified to run a concession stand, let alone a Div. 1 college athletic program. I don’t go to games anymore, nor will I even watch this one. It’s going to be ugly and I think we all, deep down, know it.
I’m going to just stick my neck out and say this year is going to be different. Miami has taken a big enough step over the last 8 months and a big part of that is the leadership of King. That kid isn’t going to win us a Natty but he has laid the foundation for Miami to take the next step. It is up to King to get the troops to focus on the next game.
Miami’s OL 2nd - 4th quarter didn’t look bad against the best front 7 in the country, likely 2-deep.
Miami’s RB- we have an Elite kid in Chaney. Best RB in years and will play on Sundays if his shoulder holds up. Rooster is out until ACC play.
Miami’s WRs were actually open far more than expected. King just got happy feet after Scaife’s WHIFF.
Miami’s TEs- we have to hope Arroyo comes on. Hodges will get back against MichSt.
Miami’s DL 2nd-4th quarter did well to stop the run. We need to work on the pass rush but that should be expected against a top 3 OL in the country.
Miami’s DB when Couch was in over Ivey stopped more pass plays. We need 2 more CBs to step up and I’d like to see Miami let TS/Ivey put their hands on the WR at the line. They are bigger CBs and forcing a WR to work on the release slows plays down.
Miami’s LBers- We need Brooks, Cave, and Chase Smith to get on the field in the worst way. Don’t get me wrong, Carter and Jennings are great kids but they aren’t good enough.
This leaves us to Culture. We have a ton of returning kids that wanted to win a natty. Well you have to play all 13 games and now they have to win 12 straight to have a chance. We will know soon enough if King, Bolden, et al have helped Manny define a winning culture. From there, it is up to TVD/Garcia to drive that bus to the Elite land.
Look - I agree Miami could make better decisions that would put ourselves in a better position to win consistently - but I think everyone knows/knew that Bama would have an easy time with us. As long as Saban remains there they’ll continue to dominate.
I’m already over it. The real season starts next Saturday. Let’s go y’all. 11-0!
That’s a best case scenario 90 but not altogether irrational. King has a lot of heart, and there were a few bright moments in the game. Looking forward, App State and Michigan State are pretty fair teams. If we handle these guys, I think we’ll fare well the entire season. If we crap out against either of them, what has become the usual shroud of gloom will engulf us.
A lot changes if we can crank up a rushing game. We won’t face a defense like Bama’s the rest of the season unless we win our division. I agree with Chaney being the better RB. Against a lesser opponent, I think the offense will be productive. While it didn’t show against Alabama, our receiving corp is pretty damn good. Alabama’s defensive front was so good, it’s hard to evaluate the offensive line.
Yes, our defense stiffened against the run late in the game, but Saban played everybody. I thought Ford and Silvera played well, and Corey Flagg surprised me, he’s a better player than I thought. James Williams obviously should be moved up to first team.
I’m looking for 10 wins and an acccg trip. We have to keep measuring ourselves against top 10 teams.
We have some holes that need filled:
LB with Brooks, Cave, Chase
CB with better play from Ivey/Blades or put someone else on the field!
RB with Rooster in Game 4-5
DE - no real answer as they should have taken two portal kids. Maybe the 245lb freshman sees the field and is that freak we don’t have. As of now, we have 4 strong men with limited length, bend, speed. Harvey and Chantz are the two best looking and Chantz is average at run D and Harvey is too small for SDE.
I only watched 5m, but we can’t even tackle properly (still). Alabama is so good we forget how to tackle?
Oh so it is only about perfect tackles. Got it.
Well, no, but the lack of fundamentals will absolutely cost us more games this year.
This.
Jennings’s and Steed were so far behind every play it was like playing with 9 on the field. The cbs gave such a cushion sometimes, it was like Donofrio was back. Need to tackle better, and figure out how to get some pressure from the ends.
I expect them to look better next week when not playing the best team money can buy in college football.
Well some believe it is all about talent. Can you tell me what these fundamentals are you speak of? Are kids born with them?
This
Leach is getting owned in the sec. Imjustsayin’
MSU scored three TDs in the fourth quarter and won the game. They did not look impressive, and La Tech missed a field goal as time expired.
WHICH COACH EXACTLY ARE YOU BLAMING FOR NOT TEACHING FUNDAMENTALS?
PLEASE NAME THEM…
Why would they teach them? It is a natural god gifted talent.
ONLY ALABAMA, CLEMSON AND OSU KNOW HOW TO TACKLE EVERY YEAR?
NO NFL TEAMS FAIL TO TACKLE?
THIS IS LIKE SAYING A GUY CAN’T DRIBBLE BECAUSE OF HIS COACH…
A GUY CAN’T FIELD A GROUND BALL BECAUSE OF HIS COACH…
LISTEN TO YOURSELF…
IF MANNY DIAZ WAS FIRED TOMORROW WOULD HE NOT BE THE #1 DC AVAILABLE IN THE COUNTRY?
BUT HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO TEACH TACKLING DESPITE YEARS OF HAVING GREAT DEFENSES HERE…
THIS YEAR HE FORGOT…
THE LAST 3 GAMES HE FORGOT…
EVERY YEAR THE RECRUITING GETS BETTER…
MOST PEOPLE WANT TO GO PLACES WITH BAD “CULTURE”…
MAKES TOTAL SENSE…
