2025-2026 Portal Movement

I’d expect Wheatley-Humphrey to go elsewhere for playing time. Jackson Carver? Trader? Kamal Bonner?

Ehh, who knows.

Supposedly staff likes Bonner, I guess he was hurt Sept/October. Carter was out all year with torn ACL I believe. I figured we’d lose at least 1 OL and it was plazz and I figured Ryan Mack was more likely than Wallace, but Wallace left. Hopefully no projected starters surprise us

Most likely departures remaining: (obviously just pure speculation, I have no info, and admit it probably isn’t fair to the kids but oh well it’s a message board)

OL Bell- NFL
RB Lyle
DE Bryant
DB Richards

Other possibilities, depth chart categories:

QB J.Anderson
RB C.Brown
RB CWH
WR Trader (I wouldn’t give up on him)
OL Other backups (Wilkerson, Minaya, Franco, etc)
DE McConathy
DT Jones
DT Moten- NFL (really hope not)
LB Pruitt/Aguirre/Bonner (hope not)
CB Brown (hope not, but he didn’t play in playoffs with turf toe)
DB Mack

Add C Francovilla to portal

I feel like Bell could use one more year. I don’t see him as a round 1 guy this year but perhaps next year?

I would also like to keep Bryant…

Would love to keep Moten and the 3 LB’s.

OL Kinsler to portal

I was under the impression he was top 7 in rotation and competing at either G or RT…So this is a bit of bad news imo

But at same time maybe he told them he wasn’t guaranteed a spot and in year 4 he decided he needed assurance.

DT A.Jones to portal

Disappointment thus far.

Quick look at the UM roster on ESPN. Does anyone think it curious that the majority of players entering the portal are freshman or sophomores? Why would this be when one could say they just got here?

Homesick? Family issue?
Impatience?
Coach told them no future at UM?
Just don’t like UM and/or schemes/coaching?
”Tampering”?

A junior with no burn I can see, particularly if they want one more chance to get on the field and play the game they love. Maybe see a sophomore, two full years in the program and still buried on the depth chart. Writing on the wall no matter how hard you work.

As of this writing it looks like depth loss or “promise” lost to the portal, nothing that really hurts. But there’s still time.

Rational, after what I read this week it makes total sense. We’re not recruiting high schools as much as we are colleges now for talent. Granted, we signed 30 a month ago but don’t be surprised if half are gone next year. You get them in, see who can play and that’s who you develop some - all while knowing you could lose them in a year to other schools.

We can’t complain about any good talent losses to other colleges because we’re doing the same thing.to other teams. If this is the way its going to be, then so be it I guess. But it really could damage your future chances with local prospects in the area high schools. Seems like we may have pivoted already to this strategy. Did I read correctly that of our 30 signees in December that only TWO are from the tri county area? That says it all if so. Reading it over I see about four. Now, we would have taken more like Cooper and Johnson if they chose us but I don’t think we’re sweating the misses when you see the other avenue for procuring players.

I think it’s not a stretch to say Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia and Texas might be our new Miami Northwestern, Central, Booker T Washington and Gulliver Prep now as odd as that may be. Locally, maybe it means a worse relationship with the high school coaches there but the game has shifted to older players and its not like other programs won’t be doing this too.

So the high school prospects a. might not choose you to begin with, b. might leave in a year if you do sign them (you think its beneath Lane Kiffin to come after Toney this off season?) c. may not pan out at the higher level at all. So why put in the work with the less sure thing?

Hate to say it but we may have fully embraced this new order and what’s happening these five days right now are the necessary byproduct of it. Now DON’T LOSE TONEY TO LANE KIFFIN!

TMC, Alabama under Saban was bringing in over 30 players each year. They did this every cycle. Because they would hit big on 50 percent of their classes no one noticed the other half were processed out by year 2. You have 105 spots now - Walks on count in that number. Most schools had up to 150 players on rosters. Miami will take 30 each year and sprinkle in portal kids to fill in the gaps.

Malik Bryant to portal

One of the more “expected” portal losses, been calling this for a while.

Decent player, will help someone

So far, it has not been a mass exodus.

I will be interested to see what our depth chart looks like after the portal closes.

Me too.

Just saw a post saying Ray Ray Joseph has joined Emory Williams at ECU

On3 shows Pringle in the portal.

HATE that if true.

I’d rather have Pringle stay and Brown leave. Pringle has more upside.
