2 Russia Invades Ukraine

Yes. You yourself said there was no way to know what would happen in an alternate timeline.

I mean, I agree that NATO doesn’t have a lot of teeth. The truth is they don’t care enough about Ukraine to intervene. Strangely, most of the conservatives on this board had the exact same opinion.

I never said the same thing (or opposite) would have happened under trump. Never suggested anything here.

And Putin doesn’t have to turn into Hitler for history to repeat itself. In fact, it already is, if you were paying attention. This is classic appeasement. And we aren’t doing enough to stop it (Biden included).

It won’t be long before everything settles down in Ukraine, the same as what transpired in Crimea. The map of Europe has changed demonstrably over the centuries. The best case scenario is to improve relations between Russia and the West that Russia won’t align more closely with China. Russians actually like and admire Americans. Ergo, when Russians become American emigres, they are good, compliant citizens. Americans and Western Europeans need to help Russia enter into the Western sphere influence, investing in Russia, and helping the Russian improve the lives of its citizens. Since the Soviet Union was disbanded Russia has been greatly modernized. It’s citizens want a Western-style life. It’s the American and European left that stands in the way of progress. Trump saw this, and the leftist Russian hoax damaged Trump’s plans to improve our relationship with Russia. Ukraine in the long run will be better off without having to support a military budget. The best case scenario is to incorporate both Russia, Ukraine, and Byelorussia into the EU. The real ethnic strife in all of Europe including Russia is between Western sanity and Islamic insanity.

Not our problem

You fucking idiot, bikki. There wasn’t a shot fired in Crimea. This is as far as possible from “the same as Crimea.”

Oh your references to 80 years ago must have been referring to Ted Williams. My bad

I repeat things WILL settle down in Ukraine, and it will be much like Crimea though Crimea is much more Russian that it is Ukrainian. Presently, there is confusion among the Ukrainian army. There will be some fighting, lives will be lost, but hostilities will not last long. IMO, Ukraine is far more corrupt than Putin’s Russia. Ukraine plainly does not need an army. With respect to Ukraine, Tulsi Gabbard has it right. Gabbard IMO is the most formidable Democrat politician. She has rejected the Woke crazies in her party.

Again, it is obvious you don’t understand the situation.

And what are you going to say in response to this when Putin attacks another former Soviet state?

Ted Williams was some kind of batter. We haven’t seen a hitter like Williams since. I used to enjoy baseball, but the drug enhancement ruined all the statistics. I do like watching the pitchers today who are better than ever, but there is nobody today at the plate who is Williams’s peer. If my memory serves me correctly, Williams was the last player to hit over 400 for the season.

Ahhh…more assumptions

Pretty safe ones, considering Putin’s behavior over the years.

Noted…But still assumptions

I was told earlier today it is irresponsible to make assumptions?

I understand Russians well,51. I lived in Russia many summers, even owned an apartment in Moscow. My wife was a UN translator and worked for U.S. intelligence bureaus as a scientific translator. Historically, Russians, Ukrainians, and Byelorussians sort to speak are joined at the hip. They share cultural similarity, and unlike speakers of Western Slavic languages, their languages are mutually understood. Millions of Russians live in Ukraine. In Donetsk, the city, half the population are Russians. In Odessa, you rarely hear Ukrainian spoken. Same in Crimea. IMO, Russia has no territorial ambition in occupying other European nations. What Russians really want is to be included into the EU which is really a marvelous idea. The left is really stupid in ratcheting up unrealistic prognostications of Russian aggression in other former satellite nations. Putin will keep Ukraine out of NATO, and there is NOTHING the U.S. or Europe can or will do about it. I assure you the Germans are not about to freeze to death next winter, and the sanctions will disappear. No doubt about it, Trump recognized Putin’s genius. He’s the most successful world politician of the past three decades. Trump opposed Europe depending on Russian energy and proposed selling to Europe our own surplus energy. Biden is a complete moron and should resign.

Do you understand the protests against the war in the streets of Moscow and St. Petersburg?

Assumptions about a despot doing something in the future, based on past behavior, are not irresponsible.

I stopped reading here.

Lol… Based on someone else’s past behavior

Gotcha

You’re so fucking lost…You literally just post any ole emotional reaction…Basically storm shelter Tourette syndrome.

Early on, Russia took an air base just outside Kyiv. It would be an obvious staging ground to assault the capital (besides troops coming down from Chernobyl and moving north from Crimea).

News broke that Ukraine soldiers just retook that airbase, so that’s good news.

I’ve seen speculation that Russia has already shown weakness. They don’t have the best assets for what they’re doing, and they don’t have the logistics to support it for long, so they are attempting a blitz to decapitate Kyiv as soon as possible.

I’m not sure I’m convinced of all that, but any Russian setback that preserves the Ukraine government and drags this out is a good thing for the world.

But 51 implied that it was possible. My point is it’s foolish to play the what if game or hypothesize that it could have happened under Trump. Totally pointless exercise. It didn’t happen then.
