Houston then Auburn then Houston over the last 7 years. I like this hire a lot
Was a Team Captain on Auburn’s 2010 National Championship after coming back from career threatening neck injury.
Plenty of draft pics Hou/Aub the last few years. From Troy, AL originally and hopefully continues to get us a foothold in Bama and get us into the Houston area and more LA as well.
Yeah, I heard this speculation last night on Locked on Canes and this is a really good hire. Proven guy, mature, lots of connections. I like the hires so far.
Speculation is that Taylor will coach the Dline and New DC will take linebackers. This, if true, would leave Safeties coach.
I still believe we need a good QB coach on staff.
As of right now, word is Etheridge is CB and safety, the speculation is we will add a 2nd D-line coach.
EDIT: Now Gabby saying what you are saying, he expects Etheridge with corners and possibly another coach to work with safeties. Which is a bit surprising to me, since Etheridge bio leans a little more to safeties (he’s done both), he also played safety at Auburn
If Miami can somehow get Nick Monroe to come in and coach Safeties it would be a home run hire. Known Nick for a very long time. He has recruited at a very high level in South Florida. Put him at one of the Florida schools and you will see that position improve quickly. He also is a very good on the field coach. Went to Colgate in college. Smart guy who understands the landscape of South Florida recruiting. When he walks into a school like STA, every coach will come up to him and say hello.
Regardless, Ethridge is a great hire! IF he proves his worth, along with the upgrade at DB AND with an improved pass rush, we will be better on defense.
And they add Will Harrris for Corners…Did good job recruiting and also coaching the Gators last year thru injuries. West Coast roots…Was a safety under Pete Carroll at USC.
If he works well with Etheridge this seems like a bit of a steal for a #2 DB coach. He will get corners and Etheridge safeties/Pass Game DC
Is it a bit odd when there’s coaches moving between UM, UF and FSU? Seems like a bigger “betrayal” and it must sting a little to the recently recruited players and those in high school.
Rising senior All-Broward CB… “The only place you’ll thrive is with the Gators. We are building a powerhouse defense with the best facilities and lots of alumni backing.” Becomes… “The only place you’ll thrive is with the Canes. We are building a powerhouse defense with the best facilities and lots of alumni backing.”
If I was a kid I’d probably think twice about the coach. Sure, coaches move around. Get a raise, wife hates where they live, etc. But the above is a little different than an OL coach going from Penn State to Texas. At least to me.
These kids themselves are being told by everyone around them that “this is a business” and to treat their recruitment like “it’s a business” and are chasing a bag. So they expect it from coaches as well.
Yeah, I don’t see it as much as a big deal as it would have been in the 80’s or 90’s. I agree, it’s all a business and there isn’t much loyalty in a business, it’s all about getting “the bag.”
