Cristobal is now 3-2
Nope
Nope - I would have loved to have seen Schiano here though. I always thought he could have turned this program around.
Was never a Cristobal fan.
I’ve never crowned him but I do feel he’ll be here to coach UM at some point.
For Texas if Urban Meyer does work out (hahahaha) then their back up plans are… According to [CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd, Penn State’s James Franklin and Oregon’s Mario Cristobal are Plan B and Plan C, respectively.
Cristobal is an elite recruiter. There are very few Meyers, Sabans who do both coach and recruit at elite levels. Then you have the Cutliffe’s and Beamers of the world. Imagine, if these guys had top tier talent to coach, oh my.
Texas should give Herman another year.
He would’ve done much better at UM than Richt, IMO. But at the time, between Diaz and Cristobal, I preferred Diaz. Thought he was cut from the same cloth as past successful Miami coaches (young, aggressive and ambitious), but his refusal to reevaluate and let go of his defensive assistant buddies is too Golden-esque for my tastes.
No, he wouldn’t have. People forget that Cristobal’s “Recruiting” ability only shows itself when he has an unlimited budget. Guess what? You will NEVER have that at Miami, and you will also never have a bottomless budget to hire support staff and the like to overcome Mario’s pathetic attention to detail. Cristobal is similar to Ed Orgeron, they are glorified position coaches that can succeed if you throw enough money around.
I’ll never get why Miami fans are so enamored with Mario. If he hadn’t played here, no one in their right mind would even suggest him for this job. Then again, the same people that push for Mario are the same “Miami Guy, Bro” mouthbreathers that push for regurgitated trash like Schiano and Butch.
Diaz is in year two. Year one was a disaster, mostly based on offense and culture.
Offense Coordinator replaced.
Culture Coordinator-Ed Reed hired. In addition he let the weeds leave the program and he himself has zero public bravado.
Can’t ask for much more than that.
Defense is currently doing well, let’s see how we finish the season regarding Baker and D.
I’m not enamored with Cristobal. The only two statements I made were: I thought he’d do better than Richt at the time (who knows if I’d be right) and I preferred Diaz over him.
Would he do better than Richt? Probably not, considering how Cristobal inherited a QB significantly better than anything Miami has had in almost 25 years and still wasn’t in the NC race. Richt, for all his flaws was able to get Malik Rosier to 10 wins. Imagine what he would have done with a Lashlee type at OC, but Richt wanted to be involved.
Mario is an excellent recruiter, but if we deliver this class this year, the same could be said for Manny. Manny seems to learn from mistakes. Hiring Lashlee certainly ameliorated the offense. Let’s see what he’ll do with the defense.
I don’t think Mario would have done better than Richt. Richt has been a great hurricane, donating a great sum of money to the program. They guy is a classy guy, and I enjoy his teleivision commentary. I would agree with Canedude about him winning ten games with Malik Rosier. That it of itself was a rather profound achievement. Richt also knew when it was time to step down.
