That’s my entire point. If we had one first that would give us a great advantage over other rival nations. We could deploy space weaponry surveillance and other tools to act as deterrence or threats to enemies.

This is juvenile. There is no strategic advantage to having a military base on the moon. It’s Buck Rogers type of sci-fi. Plus, you can’t leave people out there too long due to bone deterioration. Why would we send military to the moon?

I’m not saying to have permanent military soldiers do 4 year tours on a base.
I’m saying if we got to the moon the most common sense thing to do would be to equip it for later military use. We could also send soldiers back and forth for maintenance similar to Joe the ISS is used today.
But the reality is we never actually went to the moon.

Dude, baby steps. It makes sense to start with a station in Low-Earth orbit. The order didn’t even come until 1984, and it didn’t even start until 1998. It took 10 years to complete AS A JOINT VENTURE. this would have been prohibitively more difficult farther away on the moon without a re-usable shuttle.
You’re acting like touching the moon is the same as having a fully functional station there. That’s ridiculous.

Satellites are strategically advantageous, and a lunar station / spy telescope could be useful. Even now China is testing “satellite killers” right? Equipment on the moon would be more difficult to sabotage.
I bet we will see lunar stations (unmanned) in our lifetime. It can be as simple as a rover that looks at the Earth.
Not similar. Prohibitively more difficult. The moon is FARTHER. the re-usable shuttle DOESN’T GO to the moon. It is a much more complicated proposition. It makes sense to start with baby steps, closer to home.

At no point in this does he say he didn’t go to the moon. He even talks about him walking on the moon and how he pissed in the suit.
He’s talking about the live coverage, which at that moment in the landing, was using an animation to show the progress of where the lunar module was.
There was nobody already on the moon taking pictures of the landing. They’re referring to this clip, which I’ve actually never seen before. The live CBS lunar landing simulation.
