I don’t think Golden would have fired his best friend and brother-in-law for running Golden’s preferred .defensive scheme. Golden’s unwavering belief in permanent prevent defense was on him.
Ironically, Manny dialed up that same scheme on 4th and 14 with predictable results.

I am a big fan of Mark Stoops. The guy can flat out coach. His teams are at a severe talent disadvantage in the SEC and they still play teams well above their weight class tight.
As mentioned previously I would prefer someone with NFL head coaching experience, but if cristobal wants the job I think you have to take him.
He has won the pac12 and the rose bowl and is now in the process of taking his team to the playoffs.
Great recruiter and known for addressing the OL which is always a disaster here.

Mark stoops would be a home run hire. He has been at Miami before even though it was as GA under butch. He has built a very good program at kentucky.
The Miami job is very desirable right now. I think the next coach is walking into a situation where the team can win 10 games year one and compete for the acc crown. You can’t worry about this years recruiting class. You gotta hire the right coach
Stoops would need to leave that ground and pound offense up there though. We can’t do that here with what we have now. That is my only concern with him but yes, that would be a high floor/low ceiling hire that would bring us an identity and I think in 2-3 years we could REALLY be ready to compete for ACC crown with him depending on the OC hire. We could do a lot worse obviously, and probably will lol.

I was going to ask you what you were smoking, but then reconsidered.
We have a stable of real QBs now. there’s a lot to fix up, but a lot to work with too. And with the rest of the ACC being fairly weak, a competent coach could make a splash in the coastal.
But really it depends on the money and the AD. If the rumor is true that we have the money to spend, that’s a great first step.

When you look at what Miami is leaving behind…the new coach can win 9-10 games in year 1. There is no reason for someone to not consider taking this job.
I do wonder how much of the team bolts if CMD is canned. The recruiting class is stagnant. The portal is the only way they will be able to fix the major holes this team has at LB, CB, and DE.

He’s taken steps with that this year with his new OC. They are still run first (actually you’d be surprised how many offenses are run first now compared to 3-4. years ago, CFB is running MUCH more including some offenses that have the reputation for being run n shoot)…But more diversified.
