The Alabama opener was stupid enough. But, equally stupid is scheduling the best cupcake team in the nation as your cupcake game. App State is no slouch. They have the fifth highest winning percentage in the country in the last decade. And they famously beat then #5 Michigan in Ann Arbor some years back. As you saw last night, not a bad team and would probably go .500-ish in the ACC.
If you’re going schedule a cupcake, don’t schedule one that could conceivably beat you.
When I saw the spread was only 8 points, I seriously thought about betting on Miami to cover. But, then I saw App State easily beat ECU the previous week and figured the bookies knew something. Didn’t bet and didn’t watch it, thank God.
Two years ago, Miami would have lost last night. Borregales Jr.saved them.
Not making excuses just stating the obvious; Miami’s scheduling is stupid.
I’m of the opinion Miami, in the present year, should not be playing pro teams like Alabama. And a cupcake should be a cupcake. Fairly obvious in a game in which rankings are based almost solely on the number of wins rather than the quality of one’s opponents. No sense in making the schedule any harder than necessary. Just ask “national champs” Central Florida
