Saw this debunking online and thought it was interesting:

Here’s the paper that the NIH funded for Tunisia dog torture research that conservative outlets have been talking about. So far as I can tell, there’s confusion between the two sources.

The first study was funded by NIAID. In this study, they looked for vaccines to stop canine zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis. Canines transmit the disease to humans and It infects about 50,000 to 90,000 people a year and has a 6% mortality rate in North Africa.

Dogs in this study were used in an observational study, meaning they just let them run around and saw which ones got infected.

If vaccinated dogs were less likely to get infected, you have a good observational argument that the vaccine is effective.

The second study is linked to the first study, which was not funded by NIAID. The second study used the beagles from the control group (not vaccinated) of the first study.

“We used 6 Beagle dogs that had been naturally infected with L. infantum as part of a different study to investigate the efficacy of a vaccine against canine ZVL. These dogs had been exposed to wild sand fly bites under natural conditions in a ZVL focus located at Borj Youssef in the governorate of Ariana (36°57’N, 10° 05’E) and were from the unvaccinated (control) group”

The second study did not use money from the NIAID to do this, they even issued a clarification to state it explicitly.

This is the study people mistakenly link. It’s hard to tell if the White Coat Waste Project made this mistake intentionally or unintentionally, but there’s one big clue. When I dug around their website, I couldn’t find any primary links. They were all just screenshots of things, which is a 99.9999999% indicator the person knows they’re lying and is actively obfuscating it.

(Bullshitters who don’t care about the veracity of links will just post it without bothering to check if the link says what they claim).

Dogs are the primary transmitter for infections of a parasite called zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis that kills humans in Tunisia.

The researchers wanted to know if dogs infected by sand flies become more attractive to the parasite L. infantum . They don’t know the actual mechanism, but they theorize that being bitten changes the dog’s odor and makes them more attractive to parasites.

They tested it and found out yes. But rather than do an observational study, they decided to actually sedate the dogs and rotate them around to see which ones were more attractive to parasites, and they also did an observational test as well. Both showed the same thing.

It’s extraordinarily cruel for something that didn’t get any real medical gain. But Fauci didn’t fund it or US taxpayer money.
