After they both played early in the season, my opinion was that Garcia might have more star power and grit, but that it was all potential. Garcia and TVD both have great arms and I don’t know if either stands out as a better runner. I did understand why TVD might start if he was more polished.
With the last few games, TVD’s confidence has grown and the team has rallied around him, so it seems like he’ll be the guy for a while. We won’t really be able to answer this question unless TVD gets injured and Garcia plays a few games.
Honestly, with our recent luck, I’d put this at a 50/50 chance.
There’s nothing more important than finding the guy under center. I don’t care who it is so long as we have a legit one.
TVD seems like the real deal. Hopefully Garcia grows a set and realizes it would only be an inferior program that would take him. He should stay. He’s be one big hit away from being the guy.
There’s a great saying, “youth is wasted on the young.” And there’s no better scenario that epitomizes that adage than college football transfers and early NFL departures.
It also seems to me that so many kids get playing time over the course of their careers. Injuries happen, etc. I hate seeing them just bolt. Good teams seem to have depth. We never do for a bunch of reasons.
TVD is regarded as the little better runner. On a scale of 1-10 (Kayaa or Marino being a 1…Mike Vick a 10 lol) you are looking at ehhh 5 vs. 3 or 6 vs 4 I believe.
Garcia was the #6 ranked qb who was beat out by default by another freshman (who is a year older) after being hurt in his only half of action. TVD is #11 in the country in passing efficiency right now. Don’t forget, Garcia looked good enough that half the fan base was really hoping he would be the guy after that glimpse. He will still be a freshman, but with a year in a strength program and understanding college/athletics life. I bet he gets snatched up really quickly. UGA, Tenn, Pitt, KState, Cincinnati, FSU, UCLA all have Sr. qbs. UF and UNC could use a qb as well.
That being said, I hope he sticks it out. I think he has a big-time future at Miami if he does. Plus, after this season, he should definitely know it only takes 1 play to go from bench to starter.
Doesn’t Garcia have a bad knee? He was wearing a brace even before his injury.
A QB with a bad knee or who is injury prone probably isn’t someone you can count on to be a starter.
Garcia and TVD fight it out in Spring ball. Best QB wins. Loser probably walks since many kids are unwilling to complete for starting jobs these days. See Hall for details.
Hard to find any fault with TVD if the last three games are indicative of what he can do longer term.
Garcia needs to stick it out. If TVD continues this trajectory knock on wood, he can leave after ‘22 and Garcia can literally have 3 years to be the man afterwards. I know that’s asking a lot nowadays with these kids, but just sit back and be patient kid. Your time is coming. He can sit and learn and play in spots and be truly ready when his number is called to be the guy in ‘23.
Never got to play in the palace, just Valdosta’s stadium. Lowndes got us in the Georgia Dome for the chance to go to states - caught us when 8 starters had the flu and had a much better game plan. Then they shit the bed against Camden the next week, who my squad was built to beat… but such is life.
