Something happened mid-June
UM basically on about a 1 for last 20 slide here with several expected targets and heavy leans now going elsewhere
Even Derrick Cooper is now thought to be trending Texas.
We need a big season more than ever. And I’m sure CMC goes out on many of these kids and attempted flips til the end.
But I will clean these threads up soon and basically be done until the season starts. Too many disappointments right now, but still some very good players committed including the nation’s best offensive linemen.
I always say that the word “commit” in today’s college football is about the same as a 3rd grader “dating” another 3rd grader.
It’s not that at the moment…We aren’t losing commits.
No, I just mean I don’t get excited anymore when we get a “commit” for the 2026 or 2027 class. There is just so much time before those classes take shape. I mean it looks great on paper but times have changed.
What we’re seeing is recognition of market value in the world of collegiate athletic recruiting. Wealthy, endowed schools trample over the less fortunate institutions. While Miami has its share of wealthy supporters, Miami is losing out on the bidding war to schools offering more money. In addition, college football is more of a mania in Texas and Alabama than it is in Florida even though Florida’s top three schools are high up in the NIL funding bracket.
For fans, it’s a sad state of affairs. Loyalty and winning for the Gipper are now distant memories of yesterday’s game, the one we grew up loving. Every year, your team will have different faces. I fully understand why Saban decided to retire. Poderoso caballero es Don Dinero.
People swear we are in the ballpark or have even the best bid for most of these kids…I don’t believe most of it, but I think there is no question we are at least top 10 in NIL, likely top 7 or 8
I think just as much as maybe losing out to NIL (And in this recent run it must be said, it was the big boys we lost to…Texas, GA, Oregon, so that is definitely possible that we got flat out out-bid) , it’s the fact that it is a 2 conference world right now
No one gives a shyt about the ACC. So as long as the SEC 1-2 schools (or OSU/Oregon) we are head to head with are in the ballpark, the kid goes there. It’s that simple. The ACC is killing us imo

One thing where Mario has been a strand out has been his ability to recruit linemen. Past coaches have had difficulty in so doing. Being a former lineman himself, Mario and together with Mirabal have become nationally recognized for their ability to develop NFL-ready linemen. When you have formidable lines, you cease being a weak sister team. Mario is also a splendid human being who garners the trust of the families of his athletes. Mario runs a well-managed operation. This being said, his game day coaching faux pas while not excusable are acceptable especially when harkening back to the regimes of his recent predecessors. Mario has us on the right track.
Right track to a higher floor and being a top 10-13 program…I agree
But the ceiling is the question…Partially because of his weaknesses, partially because of the current state of CFB affairs including being in the ACC.
Though being in the SEC, Clemson was able to become a competitor for top five rankings. I think Miami is now comparable to Clemson, but I’d still give Clemson the edge since they’ve been upper echelon for a longer period.

Yes but it’s not the same SEC/ACC as it was then…By the way Clemson currently ranks in the 20s. I don’t doubt it will be UM/Clemson, with possibly FSU on top of the ACC recruiting rankings each year. But both of them will be hard pressed to get amongst the elite classes.
It is truly a 2 conference dynamic right now
Hard to disagree with this in terms of SEC/Big Ten (did I get that right?) or bust. But in the end each school therein only has X roster spots. Diligent recruiting can pick off the best of those shut out.
That said, duh, it’s an outside looking in mentality. Ultimately, my question is how long can college football continue (in financial terms which is all that counts) with just the two conferences? I mean, how many eyeballs are going to be glued for Oregon vs. Michigan State or Vanderbilt vs. Arkansas? Ultimately, I kinda suspect these sort of games don’t carry their weight. Then what? It’s not like you can have Alabama play Georgia every week. If the whole tier of games does not pull in the viewership then the total package may not turn out profitable.
TV wants eyeballs. These = money. No eyeballs, nothing to sell to the advertisers. So MAYBE eventually things equalize IF IF IF other conferences can demonstrate they draw equal eyeballs, if not more. Not for Michigan-OSU. But there has to be a point where taking the shit matchups cost more than the premium of carrying the marquee games. Maybe.
Meh, not sure it will be that effective at 105 schollies.
