Um....inflation?

During the start of 2024, Americans spent 25% more on food compared to the start of 2020.
“During that same time the 10 largest grocery and restaurant brands saw their profits skyrocket and collectively spent $77 billion on stock buybacks and dividends to enrich investors and wealthy shareholders.”

If inflation didn’t occur - would these companies have not invested in their own stocks?

Would their profits be lower?

I’m trying to understand what your point is?

They continued to do what they can legally do in spite of inflation?

Nobody said inflation didn’t occur. What was said is they took advantage of inflation to jack up their prices as much as they could and fleece the American public. Of course, you…being the “populist” don’t give a shit about the actual Americans and defend corporate greed at every step.

I didn’t say you said inflation didn’t occur.

I’m asking if they would have done something contrary had inflation not occurred.

For someone that just accused someone in another thread about reading comprehension, your response is ironic.

Yes, not had the opportunity to raise prices without it being a significant outlier, allowing customers to see the price gouging first hand, rather than pretending it was bc of inflation.

Would they have had the windfall profits to use on buybacks?

Quite consistently, you defend corporate greed at every level. Once again, the GOPers not caring about actual working class people

No no no. It’s the other way around. The Dems don’t care at all about flyover country.

Then, why is he defending price gouging and blaming it on inflation? Why do you defend increased import taxes on the American people? Fact is, name me one bill over the last 50 years that favors labor over corporate interests that the GOP voted for or initiated.

I’ll wait. Do you need to go check your bumper sticker collection to find your next post?

I agree with you on the old GOP party. That’s long gone.

I didn’t do any of that.

I’m just explaining and showing that companies do this no matter what because it’s in the companies best interest to make money. They have no other purpose.

You’re not dealing with a moral creature. You’re dealing with an entity designed to maximize profits.

Of course, companies want to make more money. Yes, some are more greedy than others. Some, too, have greater integrity than others. Still, corporations are the golden goose that provide jobs for a huge segment of America. It must also be remembered that corporate success is directly related to the success of its investors. A large segment of investors are funds that are the fiduciaries of millions of retirement accounts, including those of unions of public employees.

Someone concerned about corporate greed should know the difference between “gouging” and “guaging.”

So your takeaway here is that nobody can complain about rising prices because the purpose of corporations is to fleece you?

This is the weirdest defense I’ve ever seen. But at least GSC won’t complain about “inflation” anymore. According to him, price gouging is inevitable.

Inflation is over…the problem now is companies see that the public may complain they are still buying goods. So they are taking advantage of this. They can lower cost. The cost of eggs have been cut in half. The reality is the economy is in very good shape. That is why the pubs are nervous. They had hoped the economy would stay stagnant. As for immigration trump said he was going to build a wall and Mexico would pay for it. Neither has happened. Trump says what they want to hear but gets nothing done.

Is it really, though?

LOL ^^^^^

Since the dollar is still the global reserve currency, it retains a measure of popularity. When the dollar ceases to be the reserve currency, the world will be flooded with a surfeit of dollars. Consequently, the value of the dollar will be seriously eroded, and the result will be inflation IMO even greater than we’ve seen under prior years of the Biden/Harris era of misgovernance.

The reason for the high inflation under Biden has been the curtailment of oil leases which affects the futures market, creating the perception of diminished production even though production has reached record levels. It’s just another indication of misgovernance that pervades every area of woke, liberal governing.

If Kamala is elected, I envision massive numbers of people without economic safety nets. I see it akin to the great depression with the development of Hoovervilles, in our era, tent cities, comprised of people, made so by liberal rule, incapable of being able to scrabble together enough money ever to have either a car or a home. There will be a constant gloomy transitioning of persons formerly in the middle class into the lower classes. America will be significantly less great.

The market naturally restrains excessive profits with the emergence of product competitiveness. When a corporation is deemed a monopoly restraining free trade, it is subject to being broken up as was the case with AT&T. Fairness dictates that companies that have gone through long periods of lagging sales, deserve their day in the sun when the climate for them improves. Gouging consumers never lasts too long in America. A smart person knows the difference in the words guaging and gouging.

And THERE’S the dishonest bikki we all know and love.
