They took 300 square kilometers of sovereign Russian territory. It’s not much but it’s more inside a week than Russia took in Kharkiv in two months.
On top of that, Russian casualties during this operation have been absolutely atrocious.
It’s a fascinating operation consisting of mechanized and recon units trained in maneuver warfare. Instead of sitting in trenches and getting armor blown up by mines or glide bombs, why not take the fight directly to the enemy?
And the best part is that Russia can bomb the land into oblivion all they want, and Ukraine can gladly cede the territory back as needed, because now the destruction and cleanup can happen in Russia.
Russia and Putin hedge their bet that Trump would win the election. This war has been a disaster for Russia. It should be a warning to North Korea, Iran and other countries that starting these wars is not a good idea. Ukraine has beaten down Russia military. If Putin keeps sending his citizens to war, they will eventually get tired of it and turn on their government. Putin is holding out till November. Once trump wins or loses, he will at that point pull the plug.
Ukraine caught Russia by surprise, but their assault turned into a suicide mission with three quarters of their soldiers killed, all vehicles destroyed, leaving small groups of troops trapped in small villages. Russia reacted very quickly to the incursion, and Putin now has ruled out any peace talks in the imminent future due to Ukraine firing on the Zaporozhnoye nuclear plant and the failed Ukrainian attempt to capture the nuclear plant at Kursk.
The war in Ukraine will end when Trump is elected president. Nothing was more stupid than Biden allowing the Ukraine War to happen; it would not have happened had Trump not been swindled out of reelection. Now Russia is supplying Iran with advanced missile defense systems operated by Russians. The presence of Russian military in Iran enhances the threat of escalation should Israel retaliate to an Iranian revenge attack. The dummies in Washington think that Iran will not mount a revenge attack, because they fear American intervention. My sense tells me Israel WILL be attacked, suffer a substantial loss, but not enough to provoke all out war.

What really happened was that Russia didn’t think Ukraine would invade so made the decision to understaff their border. When the invasion happened, the fucking kids with their thumbs in their asses quickly surrendered. Then Russia proceeded to not know what to do for two entire days.
This invasion is the result of Russia’s negligence and incompetence.

Russia has already won the war. Ukraine has lost ten times the number of soldiers than have the Russians. I have had to change my thinking on the war, but the one thing I am certain about is that Putin is a great leader of his country who wanted Russia to be a welcome member of the European community. Trump knew this, but Biden did not, plus Biden’s State Department was led by Russian haters. There would have been no war in Ukraine had Trump not been swindled in 2020.
When you look at world politic, it is quite insane for Europeans and Americans to want to push Russia into a non-Western sphere of influence. Even with the war, the standard of living in Russia has actually improved thanks to Putin’s masterful leadership. Russia today is capable of producing more ammunition than the entire West combined. It has superior missiles and a far superior antimissile defense than we do.
Russia also miscalculated the course of this war, until it finally was realized by the Russians that it was to be regarded as a war of existential importance and must be won no matter what.
It troubles me 305 that you believed Ukraine could ever defeat Russia. Indeed, Ukraine once had a formidable army but Ukraine lacked an air force as well as the technology necessary to prevail.

Ukraine has won the war. Putin will never get that part of Russia back. That is a win. He underestimated the people of Ukraine. How is this a win for Russia. This was was supposed to last a week. It has been much longer.

All credible estimates show Russians with a much higher KIA and total casualty rate than Ukraine. That said, nobody is enjoying a 10-to-1 or even a 5-to-1 ratio. That’s not credible.

There was a war in Ukraine for the totality of Trump’s presidency. You may recall Trump getting into hot water over trying to use weapon supplies as collateral.
This must be why Western companies and airlines flooded Russia and welcomed their cooperation, and welcomed their energy, etc.
The only thing Europeans and Americans want to push Russia away from is invading sovereign territory.

Keep in mind I am not in the business of predicting the future. I have never said Ukraine WILL win. What I do believe is that Ukraine can effect a strategic win, most likely by forcing Russia to lose interest and give up. In fact, Russia’s strategic goal of toppling Kyiv has almost surely already been defeated.
Vietnam had way more soldiers and civilians die than Americans. Who won the Vietnam war? Russia lost the war if they don’t claim Ukraine back. What would be the purpose of the war if they don’t make Ukraine quit. I believe at this point Putin is praying that trump wins and the us stops backing Ukraine. If Harris wins…my money says the power brokers in Russia over throw Putin. When you are fighting for your country death totals don’t matter to those people.
