Tyler Van Dyke

From up in New Jersey I am assuming the relative quiet on the board around spring practices and scrimmages is due to the ongoing attendance restrictions. That said, reading the South Florida newspapers the writers seem to be talking up Tyler Van Dyke. There’s a strong tug to root for the latest “huge get” at any position, in this case Jake Garcia. Before Garcia gets anointed as the heir apparent to King, what is the considered opinion on TVD getting the nod?

I ask partly because “back in the olden days” the senior started, the junior backed up, the sophomore and freshman sat and they knew that from day one. Now it seems if the freshman even partially outshines the sophomore, bam, there the sophomore goes to the portal. The concept of may the best man win and the loser sits with dignity and patience is basically the horsewhip and buggy.

QBs are coming in at a much higher IQ with more ability to start year one especially with a spring. Coaches are also pressured to win now. Assuming King plays all games in ‘21, Miami will likely have 3 QBs battling for the ‘22 starting job. The kid that wins the backup job in ‘21 will have a small head start but I wouldn’t guarantee the job.

Bernie Kosar would disagree with you.
