Two Tragic Tales

The first tragic story is that of Kellen Winslow, a great player for the Hurricanes who had some good years in the pro game with Cleveland Unfortunately, and I dare say shockingly, Winslow turned out to be a twisted soul, engaging in aberrant sexual behavior, and now has been sentenced to a long prison term.

Then, we have the case of Willie Williams. I never saw a high school LB with as much raw talent as Willie Williams, and being from Pensacola I saw Derrick Brooks play in high school. Brooks was an A student, the only African American student in Advanced Calculus at B. T. Washington High School. He was a great player in high school, but his play paled before that of Willie Williams. Brooks became an All Pro in NFL and now is a community leader. In contrast, Willie Williams is now in prison in Kentucky. He’s 40 years old and will be released in 2030.

Here is an excellent rather long article about Willie Williams, a really great read.

Was Calais Campbell the best player in the class by far? At the time I thought it stood to be a UM all-time group. (not so) Funny how things turn out.

Ah, the legendary Willie Williams. Haven’t heard that name in a while

I thought Andre Hastings was the first celebrity recruit back in 1990. He was in Sports Illustrated in when he was trying to decide on where to go to college.
