How do they test for delta to know that these cases are indeed delta?
Cases are rising for many reasons including break through cases especially with Pfizer. Delta very well could be nearly identical but Delta increases the viral load by 1000x thus easier infection/transmission which means the vaccines aren’t as effective especially 4-8 months after inoculation.
Does this mean they have failed? That is hard to predict.
Even if everyone was vaccinated, 60% of Pfizer would get the virus.
With the number of people who have gotten sick more than once, I can’t see us beating this virus. Natural immunity doesn’t appear to help much. If it isn’t going away anytime soon, the vaccine & boosters just kick the ball down the road until we find more solutions to prevent death. The Moderna vaccine could very well be that solution with an annual booster and antivirals for breakthrough cases or unvaccinated.

Now, if one tests positive for COVID we’re not sure which strain it is - but since the delta variant is the dominant strain around the world at the moment, chances are that’s what you have.
