Why doesn’t anyone bring up that his SINGLE economic plan is the opposite of how it actually works?

That’s not actually correct and I think it’s oversimplified.

In theory, yes. However, what if China lowers prices because of the tariffs. My understanding is that those on the import side get their margins squeezed a bit but the American consumer didn’t see a marked increase in prices.
Why? Because the US is a huge economy and China doesn’t want to lose business to the US.
I’m no expert in this field but I believe that’s what Trump means when he says China paid for it.
Those cute hit piece articles don’t really delve into the details of what actually happens.
There is no “in theory.” I own a logistics company. Tariffs are paid by the importers of record, hence the company importing them. It’s not a matter of opinion.
How curious…so, from the people who state a raise on minimum wages will 100% be passed down to customers now think China might just lower their prices and MAYBE the TAX ON AMERICANS in the form of Trump tariffs (which he still claims is paid by the foreign country) just MIGHT not be passed along to consumers.

To summarize - Trump has a single economic policy by which he represents publicly that his understanding is 100% the opposite of what it is. He claims that foreign countries, not even the foreign businesses involved, pays for the tariffs. He lies about how much the Treasury has collected, lies 100%. You claim that you don’t know shit about it, but you THINK he means that the costs aren’t passed along to consumers.
He literally claims China has paid us billions and billions of dollars on US tariffs. You’re 100% full of shit, as usual
Tariffs make goods more expensive. They are absolutely a penalty on domestic buyers.
That said, the purpose of them is to essentially subsidize domestic production. By making Chinese steel more expensive, domestic companies might look to buy US steel. That keeps US businesses afloat. It’s like socialized healthcare - it’s a tax on the people to support an industry.

There are other downstream effects of tariffs that I think are important. In order to remain competitive, exporters and foreign businesses would have to lower their costs or offer more value - if they don’t, Americans will buy American.
