There are only 2 clear picks for Republicans, as it stands today, for the 2024 Presidential nominee.
Trump
DeSantis
No one else is trusted by the MAGA crowd or R leaning independents. Pence will never get more than 3% support. No one else makes sense today. Someone could emerge but up until now it’s these 2 that move the party.
But Trump has 1 year. A huge advantage over DeSantis. And he needs to use it wisely.
DeSantis just won re-election and cannot campaign for President until at least 1 year from today. He must govern his state and must watch Trump and then decide what he wants to do.
If I’m Trump it’s difficult to see if I should avoid DeSantis and let his lore grow, or take shots at him and risk martyring him.
While this is an advantage it comes with huge risks it also allows Trump virtually no real competition so if he tightens up his campaign and doesn’t bloviate or misstep, he can capture a majority of support from now until them.
If I’m Trump I make a pact with Ron right now. “Let me finish what I started. I will clean it up, and you will run it 8 years after me. Tell me what you want to be your agenda as VP…. It’s yours, i trust you and I’ll get out of the way. Only contingency is you have to talk me up…. No fighting.”
Trump CAN win. Never underestimate Biden’s ability to misgovern. People vote their pocket books. If gasoline and food prices double, how popular do you suppose Biden or Democrats will be. How well do you suppose $800 a month A/C bills would be to voters. The Dems are on the wrong side of a host of issues: energy, immigration, CRT, and War in Ukraine. Trump was the father of MAGA and was an exceptional president. As things cave in around Democrats, Trump’s favorability will grow. Trump DESERVES to be president after being swindled in 2020.

And narcissists, no matter how narcissistic, understand survival better than anyone.
I think it’s really really easy to see, which is what I’m attempting to explain here, that a Trump/DeSantis ticket gives the GOP its best chance of success.
Even if skeeter were right (I don’t think he is as I think even those that hate Trump will hate the democrat more) this ticket would help people see that it’s a 12 year plan of common sense, pro American policies.
