I guess I will say it since no one else is saying it. I don’t understand the Heisman love for Hunter. I have been looking at his numbers and stats, and one thing that I keep seeing over and over is that he is not Heisman worthy–especially when compared to other more deserving candidates.
One thing he has been really good at to get his Heisman buzz is running his mouth, being on a team that seems to be the media darling because of Deion, and doing the Heisman pose
I get that he plays both ways, but unfortunately, when looking at his stats, he is not even CLOSE to being the best receiver this season. Restrepo has overall better stats than Hunter this season! Even worse, he is NOWHERE close to being the best DB.
I see him like Gordie Lockbaum from Holy Cross who finished third in the Heisman voting back in the late 80s
There’s an expression that reminds me of Hunter… “Jack of all trades, master of none.” If he was exceptional on offense, and mediocre on defense, ok, maybe. If he was exceptional on defense and mediocre on offense, ok, maybe. But I am sorry… I don’t know how you can call him the “most outstanding player in college football”, when he is mediocre at both. So because you’re mediocre at two things, somehow that earns you Heisman votes? Bullcrap…
Before anyone thinks that I’m trying to say Restrepo should be a Heisman contender, that’s not the case. What I’m doing is showing that Hunter is not that much better than Restrepo. No one here thinks Restrepo is a Heisman candidate. And neither is Hunter.
Travis Hunter is a first tier talent both offensively and defensively. I would place ahead of Restrepo because of his versatility. Hunter’s future in the pro game might well put him at CB rather than WR. Few players have Hunter’s skills on both sides of the ball.
Sometimes stats should be overlooked. His impact on that program is unreal. He impacts almost every game. If he just played on one side the ball he would be the best player at that position in the entire country. If he played at alabama or ohio state the hype would be at another level. Hunter is also a great kid. He does not go out. He likes to just find a pond and fish.
I guess I’m not the only one who thinks Hunter’s Heisman campaign is a fraud.
If he played for any other team that wasn’t media darling Colorado, coached by media darling Deion, we wouldn’t even be talking about this guy.
He isn’t the best receiver in college football nor is he the best DB in college football. No way he’s the best player in college football. He is not even the best player on his team!
