Top gun: maverick

I am unsure how this happened. This movie was terrible

Was it? At first I heard it was coming out I rolled my eyes….but saw a clip or two and it actually looked pretty good.

No?

No.

The entire premise is Maverick is fighting this guy who wants drones for the future…then, they proceed to have him train a team (3 weeks of training only) that would be perfect for a drone mission and all of the problems and issues they have to overcome would be negated by just using a drone.

Secondly, he doesn’t teach anything to anyone. Instead, he spends his time showing them he’s better than they are.

No character development in any way. The love interest appears to be someone from the past, but nobody has a fucking clue who or her daughter are and we have to pretend we know them and their backstory.

No clue about Goose’s son except that he doesn’t believe in himself when it counts and he hates Maverick. At no point do they actually have a conversation, instead the arc of the movie is they head nod and hug and it’s all good.

Of course, Maverick doesn’t teach them anything and instead gets thrown out of the Navy and then thrown back on to the mission all in less than a week and a half and then just takes it over and it becomes Maverick’s mission…as it always should have been…because we have nothing if not Maverick.

The mission was ignorant. It should have been with drones. Iceman shouldn’t have brought in Maverick as it was shown pretty easily he couldn’t teach and didn’t want to. Every decision Maverick made in teaching was wrong, obviously, since he had to do the mission himself.

Ever seen the movie The Grey? I always point to that movie in that every decision Liam made was the wrong one and what they left at the very beginning of the movie was the very thing they were trying to get to from that point on in the movie. I felt the same with Top Gun. It’s one of those where at the end you realize we’re closer to Idiocracy than you thought beforehand.

LOL. So if this were Men on Film you’d say: hated it.

OMG I never thought about it that way. It’s completely true. The main difficulty of the mission was getting out of there alive after bombing the site. Drones would solve that problem.

That said, I pretty much disagree with everything else you said. The movie was great.

If Maverick was a totally new military property, yes, I would say its plot and premise are dated. But this is a nostalgia sequel. The fact that its plot closely follows the original movie is intentional, and their target audience is fans of the original, and those are the people giving it perfect reviews online.

And I agree with them. Through the lens that you want an 80s action movie where you can turn your brain off and watch Maverick do cool stuff, this pays off 100%. It was exactly what was advertised, and that goes a long way with the public.

Better than the original, which was up there

Absolutely loved it

Here in Pensacola which is filled with retired pilots, they loved the movie. I thought the movie was okay. I’ve never been a Tom Cruise fan. He looks to me like a beaver and he has not aged gracefully. Americans love heroes, and so the movie achieved its goal of audience approval. Numerically, I’d assign it a grade of 84.

Maybe the only person in the world to say this. Dude is 60 and doing action movies.

He still looks like a beaver to me. Warden’s review was pretty good.
