You 100% play for the field goal? At the U? With a freshman kicker? After having two terrible seasons which you largely blamed on missed field goals?
What a BETA head coach Manny Diaz is and it shows up everywhere from his staffing to how he manages his team to game day. 100% not the guy to develop young talent on this team, period!
I became a Miami fan BECAUSE Miami was the most alpha team out there. I don’t even recognize my own team anymore.
I blame Manny for this but really the whole program is to blame; the most important thing is that
Blake James go now!

Honestly field goal was the smart play. Short range with a true frosh qb and Swiss cheese OL. I would have tried a swing pass or two to get yards on the edge for a TD. 3rd down would have been a run to midfield for Fg setup though.
So on that one series I agree largely with the approach. Entire program is a disaster though and manny is clearly not an alpha.
God I’m glad I had to go out of town and not be at the game. Extra bonus, it wasn’t even on TV where I am.
Checked the score this morning.
We’re in the red zone, plenty of time to take some shots at the endzone……and we play for the FG.
Is Larry Coker on this staff now?
I feel bad for Borregales. Sure, he should have made it, but the fact this coaching staff and team couldn’t execute to the point where he wouldn’t have to be in that position to begin with is unacceptable.
This performance is the perfect response to Frenk’s dumb statement - pretending to reaffirm his commitment to athletics.
Well, Julio, here we are. What will you do? In my estimation, one of two things:
A) Nothing.
B) he’ll fire one or both, replacing them with other nobodies.
I realize FSU is in complete shambles right now….but I have to say I don’t think we’re that far off.
Absolutely NO on the pass. I was really happy (and couldn’t believe) on the decision to not pass.
That said, we laid over. We stopped trying. We could have run into the end zone easy. We at least could’ve tried to gain yards AND eat clock instead of only focusing on the clock.
You guys realize that if the offense had gained 1 MORE YARD then the FG would’ve been good, right?
This is why you don’t give up 2 downs without trying. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost the yard that would’ve won us the game on that final 3rd down. it was pathetic.
Had the FG been good. It would have been game won. No time left on clock for UVA comeback. We played one of the worst first halves ever. The improvement in rushing game failed to happen. We were stuffed. I have very little faith in Van Dyke. He looks very clumsy to me. Our short passing game was terrible. We threw several deep passes that were wasted downs. I think Lashlee called a subpar game as well.
FSU is capable of beating Miami. No doubt their program is down though they’re doing an excellent job of recruiting. They did play Notre Dame which is now unbeaten right down to the wire. FSU’s coaching strategy has been plainly awful at times. If King doesn’t play, FSU will beat Miami IMO.
I’ve been a Garcia guy. He has IT by a mile over TVD. I bet Garcia wins that game by two TD.
HOW DOES THAT WORK IF WE LOST BECAUSE OF COACHING?
46 to 4. TVD is a blue chipper so you have to make it up on D by not giving up 30
WHY DO YOU CHANGE THE SUBJECT?
YOU JUST SAID:
HOW DOES THIS WORK IF WE LOST BECAUSE OF COACHING?
You win dipshit. It is 10000000% talent. Manny just need 40 more blue chippers before he can beat UVA. It has to be 85 vs 4! Why? The 40 extra have to make up for the blue chippers that make bad plays.
I said Garcia wins by 2 TDs because he looks better than TVD. That doesn’t mean TVD sucks and that is why Miami lost. Miami gave up 30 points which means GSC is looking right, the problem is just as much the D as the O. The D is 100% Manny and has yet to hold a p5 or g5 team under 20 since Duke last year.
SO WHAT DID IT MEAN?
THAT IS WHAT STORM IS ASKING?
Like everything, it means Garcia gives the bad coaching more margin for error.
You are still covering for a staff that has 42 more blue chippers than UVA! You were the one saying it was all about talent and Bama had more blue chippers. Well, Miami has more than every team on the schedule excluding Bama!
IMO, Garcia is the better QB. His throwing motion is much more natural, and he has better touch on the ball. Why is it that every year Mike Leach finds a QB. Usually the guy is someone no one ever heard of, and by the time Leach gets through with him, he’s leading the nation in passing. Why is Leach able to develop a QB, and apparently the Hurricanes can’t.
There’s no way in hell, I’d let a QB throw long and waste a down until he established a rhythm in the short passing game. Van Dykes long completion was a crap pass, arching way to high, taking too damn long to get there. His other long passes were uncatchable.
What really killed us in the Virginia game was inability to stop the QB from improvising. We’d play good defense for a couple downs, then blow it on 3rd and long, letting the QB escape. You get burned once on a QB scamper, it should occur to you to shadow the QB on long conversion plays. Our 3rd down play is demoralizing both on defense and on offense. I have almost no faith in the Canes making a first down when it is 3rd and short.
In peewee football, the kids know how to throw the slant play, and no pee wee team has a 6’5" TE who is relatively fast. For all practical purposes, Mallory was almost worthless against Virginia. It seems all other teams can run the quick pop pass offense and move the chains. Not Miami. Our short passing game was a failure. Manny and Lashlee should attend some pee wee games to get some coaching tips.
I think Catagory6 and 90’scane identified our worst problem. We cannot land the big guys on the offensive and defensive lines. We get our share of skilled players, but we don’t have the proverbial full cupboard of talented linemen. Not having the smashmouthers has caused us to have a feckless rushing game.
Because they played the wrong player?
