I believe you, GSC. I’m talking about Indiana’s case.
And I’m aware these are just personal anecdotes.
Another variable is, did your friend and 51 not get covid, or did they just not get symptoms? 51, have you gotten an actual antibodies test that proved you were covid free? (Is that even possible after the vaccine? I don’t know.)
Just like I know whole families who have gotten it together.
I really wish we’d hear some news on who is likely to contract this and why some people don’t get it? I mean it’s surprising to me that I never got it. I played basketball from 8/20 thru now (a couple guys at different times had it) stopping only in 12/20 when I quarantined waiting for a result, and then the group shut down when cases were high around the holidays
I’ve sat at poker tables in private games with about 10% of people in the whole building wearing masks all through this…Etc, etc…Many people in this poker circle have gotten at different times, including a few cases shortly after I had been near them. Other factors in lifestyle too
I’m wondering if certain people just can’t get it. Maybe may multi-vitamin and zinc has helped somewhat? Who knows… But hey why study things like this in earnest when we can just wear masks for the rest of our lives right? Shut down…Lock down…Etc, etc…Comedy.
I’m sure this is the case - some people just have a stronger immunity to certain illnesses than others. I’m sure there are studies under way to determine this.
I’m not saying my case is as strong as Canes51. I’m just saying that I’ve been indoors with folks in close contact for long periods of time that shortly after tested positive for COVID.
Since about May of last year, my family has more or less lived normally. We’ve gone to church indoors with hundreds of people. I’ve been to restaurants without masks, been to concerts, gone to work every day, the store etc etc and not one of my family members has gotten COVID. It’s either not quite as contagious as we think or we are the uber lucky folks. But odds would say we’ll get it at some point.
Or maybe we have natural immunity. My point to Canes51 is that his personal example is nice but you can’t draw any conclusions from it.
And I think this is a fair point - the human body is wierd and you don’t know how certain illnesses may manifest themselves.
I remember years back my wife and I went on a 3 day cruise with 3 other couples. One of the men in our group got really sick (mono like illness) and was in his cabin the whole time.
By the time we had returned home the rest of the men on the trip got sick. I was sick for 3 straight weeks. It sucked. None of the wives got sick. Very strange.
I did very early 305ive…Because my asthma is a relatively new thing…One of the many fun 40 something probs I got going on. Asthma came in 11/19…So like July 2020 when trying to figure out what the asthma was…I asked them to do an antibody test just in case I was one of the real early cases of covid (at that time no one knew when exactly it started yada yada…And I did get sick in 11/19 while travelling)…The respiratory stuff has been lingering ever since and now has been diagnosed as a mild asthma (hence my discussion with 51 in the thread last week when he mentioned asthma)
But yeah anyways, mid summer last year when trying to figure out what it was…I asked for antibody and it was negative…But who knows since? I did have covid tests in 12/20 and 5/21…(just to know if I should not visit my mom for a week, and stay away from my hoops group…ehhh I guess poker too, but no one there really gives a fuck NO MATTER THEIR POLITICAL preference…Maybe a very small percent of progressives there do). One was a 5 day wait, the other a rapid test…Both negative.
And althought I know you didn’t insinuate this…On a total side note. If I did HAVE it (no reason to believe I did)…It should be treated as a good thing that I was unsymptomatic…Not the witch hunt they turned the whole unsympotmatic into. That is as big a travesty as anything during this covid nonsense.
I roll my eyes at anyone wearing more than one. Hell I roll my eyes a people sitting next to me at football games for 3.5 hours wearing one. Don’t think it’ll help much.
