Every Saturday I walk into the garage, pick up the rubber mallet and softly work my hand into its handle. The room is silent and the fumes of gasoline in the lawnmower percolate through the air. I contemplate whether it would be faster to just whack myself in the balls with this thing or if I should settle in to the couch for an extended afternoon of disappointment. “They’re a sub-500 team” I tell myself, “this should be an cakewalk.”
The mallet hits the floor with a thud. “Not today, old friend…not today.”
