Syracuse Game

I used to call Van Dyke clumsy, but Beck as you call it really freaks out when rushed.

Another unnecessary time out by Mario? He takes a TO on 2nd and 6? He gave life to a Stracuse team that was probably content to run out the clock. At best he gave them a free time out.

Had to speed watch the first half to catch up to live, so now I can get on the board.

I have 3 observations.

  1. This team is undisciplined AF.
  2. This coaching staff is not doing what is necessary to get this team disciplined
  3. Jojo Trader sucks. We all wondered why he wasn’t playing. Now we know. Bench him.
    Bonus 3b. Carson Beck sucks.

Look at us playing quick, disciplined, and mixing up weapons. Our offense could be near the top if we always played with this style.

That is the real travesty. Miami has the talent to compete, but no discipline. That’s on the coaches.

I am not so sure that ball hit the ground. I think the Syracuse player popped it up…

Carson Beck never saw triple coverage he wouldn’t throw into.

I hate that once again, Miami with a lead just runs up the middle twice in a row for short gains, leading to a 3rd and long and a situation where Beck is almost picked off. That was how we lost to SMU at the end.

I understand running the clock. But if youre determined to run twice in a row, make one of them more interesting, especially if the first attempt was stuffed.

This time there was no INT, and we lost the TD but got the FG. We aren’t always that fortunate.

I don’t think he sees much at all. Doesn’t see triple coverages. Doesn’t see open receivers. Doesn’t see blitzing players. Maybe he has bad vision and that’s why he does not throw it deep. Like Rick Vaughn in major league may need some glasses or something

The play that changed the game and I HOPE the rest of the season is the “fun” trick play from Toney to Beck for the TD. It completely changed the attitude of the team. Smiles galore.

We have to remember that these are still kids. All of us enjoyed being outside playing backyard football until the lights came on and it was time to go home…OR in some cases played under the lights. My issue with Dawson is that he is so predictable and boring in his playcalling. However, he has shown that he can be an excellent OC.

I truly hope that our coaches can let these kids have fun going forward. It helps the kids to play loose and not so rigid and tense. We HAVE the talent to be a top 5 team, but it’s been our coaching that has kept us at being just a top 20 team.

We have the horses to run the ball, we have some really good kids at TE, we need to get the ball into the hands of our playmakers (i.e. these slants) and let them do the work.

Our D has played extremely well, overall.

If we can just stop sleeping through the first half…

We covered

Great to see the commentators calling out the ripoff penalty calls against us last week.

Did we though?

No, we did not cover. Line was -28,5 That late TD Syracuse scored effed it up.

Yesterday, I was thinking I should take Pitt and the points but given how close it was, I’m glad I didn’t

I do enough gambling already in the stock market.

Young Gerard Pringle was very effective on wide rushing plays.

The offense is still not what I would call poised. It’s horrible in terms of deception which is an important component in mounting a successful rushing game. We consistently underachieve on first down, which always makes it much more difficult to achieve first downs. It appears Beck is now gun-shy about taking shots downfield, which with Moore, he should be doing occasionally to keep the defense honest and relieve pressure on the short game.

We threw several slant plays which were “slant and go” plays where the WR veers off the slant and heads downfield. Since we so rarely use our TEs, we might as well replace them with offensive tackles whose specialty is blocking. So much for the talk of Lofton being our Swiss knife player or Bauman, who lit it up at Tulane, being a 3rd down specialist.

I think Carson Beck is occasionally good, but unfortunately, when under pressure, as 305 noted, he really gets happy feet and “freaks out.”

I think Shannon Dawson is trying to dispel the opinion that his offense is too predictable. In today’s game, we saw some creative plays, but we also saw a lot of inside rushing attempts thwarted for almost no gain. At this juncture, I have very little confidence this team will run the table winning all its remaining games. We just cannot seem to play consistently well through an entire game.

The glory of beating Notre Dame has certainly dissipated.

On Pringle’s longish TD run about 20 yards, Dawson FINALLY had Toney motioning to the opposite side which cleared the way for Pringle down the sideline for an easy TD.

Dawson did some of the deceptive things that we have been demanding for months instead of just running into a stacked line over and over. Several trick plays worked well. Let’s hope he continues to do so. I would also like to see more slants. One scored a long TD yesterday.

Maybe there is hope for Dawson?

Bikki, well stated.

Dawson/Mario just seem to be so doggone determined to run behind this massive Oline that can’t always seem to push the pile. We have shown that we CAN push the pile but body language from the Oline often says different.

We do have the weapons to compete with anyone but our discipline, execution and playcalling do us in. We are typically in the way of ourselves. We lose to UL and SMU because of said issues.

I would agree that we need to see more TE’s. Both Lofton and Bauman can play! That’s two more weapons. Bench Trader at this point…my goodness.

Anyway, let’s see how the next three shake out.

They scored right after I posted it. I wasn’t able to watch but was tracking it on my phone. Saw the final about 20 minutes later.
