I think the Restrepo kid is going to turn out to be a player. Here’s a kid that is competitive as hell though not as gifted athletically as some others. He certainly had a great spring game. I think he has better hands than Pope who was dropping punts as well as passes last season I think Restrepo will have a good year for us, and his stock will rise. For certain, Pope was completely overrated by the pundits.
I think Keontra though undersized is going to be our best LB. The kid reacts very quickly to the flow of the game, and made a lot of tackles last year. Shrewd move by Manny moving him to LB. I believe Miami is in trouble at LB. I think some the DEs should be tried out as LBs. Miami needs a tall, 250 proto-type inside LB who can play sideline to sideline.
We don’t have any 6’4 250lb DE that aren’t needed at DE and have the talent to play MLB. Harvey is the only one close to that and he is our best DE. McCloud is the other and we know how that worked out. I’d rather see Huff or Brooks add 10-15lbs and play MLB.
Keontra appears to have taken the WILL. Brooks has a chance if he can stay healthy. Steed could move inside or back-up. Jennings is “done” IMO. Cave is another MLB type that could come on over the fall with more size and speed than Flagg.
While I like Restrepo(X), I don’t think he will play ahead of Rambo, KSmith, and Harley. At worst, we have four WRs that can catch the ball and get separation with 3 of them that can take it deep. The three incoming freshmen should add to that list.
Sort of reminds me of Berrios.
Except X is BIGGER by 20lbs. I was disappointed he was tackled so easily. I’d expect him to break more at 205lbs.
This sounds Mark Walton-esque … At least he didn’t resist arrest.
Watching the spring game, I have little doubt that Garcia is the future Canes QB. I base my assessment on poise, moving well in the pocket, and most importantly, he has a lightening quick release. I see him as being a huge star for the Hurricanes.
Pope looks like a WR, and exhibits speed, but I think the guy has two great problems. He has crappy hands. He fumbled several kick returns last year, and I think he has a severe case of the dropsies. Furthermore, I have very little confidence that he’s a fighter for the ball on downfield plays. I don’t see him as being physical enough, snatching balls from the reach of defenders.
I am a Restrepo fan. I like the kid’s motor. He catches the ball well on punt returns. He looks like a football player to me, and I think Stork’s comparison of him with Berrios is accurate.
Is there a statistical category for dropped passes. Miami seems to me to drop too damn many passes. What a bummer it is to see a WR streaking free down field, then drop the friggin ball.
