From Cal to Penn St and everywhere in-between dissatisfied teams are making changes …looking to shore up the areas that contributed to losses in the season.
Is Mario standing pat with is coordinators ? Hell…DeShaun Foster and UCLA gave Bienemy his walking papers after a poor offensive season.
UNC has now hired Bill and Lombardi is joining him as his “GM”. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Bill didn’t do much once Brady left so I’m not sure how it will work out in Chapel Hill.
The point is that programs are making moves. No need to move with Dawson but Guidry was horrible this year. A good DC can scheme around what he HAS as opposed to what he doesn’t have.
Since he left Miami, the entire college football world has passed on Strong save Saban hiring him for an analyst’s role in 2023.
Guidry had great stats in his last position. And frankly, I don’t think any DC could have done much better given how bad Miami’s back 7 is. They were just plain awful and not because of a lack of coaching IMHO.
The transfer portal is our friend, hopefully. Get a really good QB and some strong DB’s/LB’s or else next year is going to be painful to watch.
How can you fault Guidry for this year’s inadequacy on defense. Guidry has an excellent coaching resume, and we weren’t complaining about the defense during his previous year as DC. Under Guidry, lowly Marshall had one of the stoutest defenses in NCAA football. What killed us this year was losing two exceptional safeties that are now playing in the NFL. We knew from the year’s beginning that our defensive backfield was both young and inexperienced. No way Guidry should be fired.
My issue with Guidry has to do with scheme. He just never seemed to adjust. Where did our Dline go? This was the one unit that was supposed to be our strength but guys just disappeared.
