SMU Game Box Score

Another horrible loss to a mid-team.

12 Fcking Penalties. 12!!! JFC!!!

Beck’s 2 picks were a lot of the difference especially the last one.

Why the fck did Dawson call a pass when Miami was getting 5+yards a play running Brown up the middle? No need to throw in that situation especially when your QB is a plck machine.

I think this game gets Dawson fired at the end of the year so maybe it was worth losing.

Mario needs a scapegoat to save his job. Losing to teams that Miami clearly out talents is not a good look. Hire a better OC this time. Or, at least get a transfer QB that doesn’t suck.

I’m furious and I didn’t even watch the game.

I wish I hadn’t.

Because he wasn’t. 1st down was a 2 yard run where Brown missed a wide open run to the end zone. 2nd down was another 2 yarder and it was like 3rd and 6. At that point the run was shut down and they tried to take a shot at the end zone.

I am super frustrated with this loss too because 10 different things needed to go wrong for SMU to pull it out. It was awful to see. But the loss isn’t mostly on Beck. The 1st pick wasn’t even his fault. It was Trader’s and that was the start of the bad game for us.

I mean, the first one clearly wasn’t his fault…He threw a pass that basically hit Tradr in the face.

Pretty well said 305ive…The pass should have came on 1st or 2nd down.

I support Mario on alot of things, but I really believe that it gets to the point where he makes the call to refuse to pass the ball until you absolutely have to. He tells Lashlee, when the game is tied or if we are behind and anywhere near field goal range, to take the air out of it. That can’t be Lashlee imo, a guy’s identity can’t be BOTH what we saw with Ward and then scared to death to put the ball int he air with the game on the line. Not when you have a proven QB like Beck, and he was having a damn good game.

100% agree. But Dawson always does the obvious thing, so near the end of the game he runs on 1st and 2nd and only passes after he’s in a hole when everyone knows we’re passing.

I was happy to see some running success here and there, but our short run game was shut down today. We failed to convert a 3rd and 4th and 1, and then next series we failed a 3rd and 2 and had to kick a FG. If either of those are touchdowns we win. So at the end of the game, in overtime, we’re clearly not going to just run up the gut over and over. Why Dawson thought he could is beyond me.

It’s interesting to put that on the head coach… it very well might be a directive from Mario. We’ve seen it over and over this season. Playing not to lose instead of playing to win. It keeps games much closer and stressful than they should be.

Again I honestly think that’s Mario pulling the plug on Dawson late in games… But we’ll never no.

I only saw the ESPN gamecast narrative which was apparently out of synch.

Is this incorrect?

Miami has two downs to make 6 yards (or kick a FG on 4th down).

Brown got 4 yards on first down, stuffed by the stacked box? on second down resulting in a 3rd and 6. So, SMU was playing pass and the predictable thing happened.

Why not throw a fade to your tallest receiver and use Toney in motion as a decoy to the other side?

Having Beck throw across the middle seems like a bad, high risk decision. Toney wasn’t even open.

If Beck had lofted the pass instead of trying to throw it through the DB (who he somehow didn’t see?) a different outcome perhaps. Beck never even looked off Toney which didn’t help.

It never should have come down to overtime and the refs.

Miami played like shyt. 12 penalties is hard to explain away.

If it wasn’t for his $60M+ buyout, Cristobal might be looking at getting fired after Thanksgiving.

So, unless a rich benefactor wants to write UM an enormous fire Mario check, we are stuck with Mario for years.

As it is, Dawson will probably be fired instead at the end of the season.

Not sure it matters who the coordinators are when a team commits 12 penalties and is in the bottom ten teams in the nation for committing penalties. Hard to win 10+ games if a team self destructs with stupid penalties every week. That’s on Mario.

I can hardly wait until next year’s pre-season hype kicks in. I’m pretty sure Miami will win the ACC and get into the playoff.

Ya this just isn’t correct…You literally can see Beck look through start by looking to his left (which admittedly is probably a token look off) he then looks at Toney and Trader…He then giver another look up towards top of screen then comes back to Toney.

Sorry it was a run for 4 and a run for 0, I think i said two 2 yard runs. Either way it was 3rd and 6 and it wasn’t 2 down territory because in OT you need to at least get that FG and then rely on your defense. The problem was running up the middle on first and second with Brown. The defense knew what we were gonna do the whole time and it made everything harder.

Same thing happened earlier in the 4th quarter. We go up by 3 and then we start running like we want to win by running the clock out. Have some balls and try to ice the game with a touchdown. We KNEW they were going to go pass happy hurry up. Did Mario think we suddenly had a formidable secondary to stop that?

This is why you can’t keep games close, because it might work in the 3rd quarter, but when the desperation of the 4th quarter kicks in, our corner backs and safeties get exposed.

I have to re-watch, but we kinda did. We threw up top they picked up the flag and we threw on either a 1st or 2nd down to Trader. There was also the play where Beck missed the RB in the flat, which was awful. I have no problem for the most part the play calling in regulation, you are supposed to be running at least a decent amount and we mixed in some throws…Again the picked up flag on the same play as a phantom hold (the DL falls coming out of his stance into Maui)

You can see Beck going through progressions…You can also see Trader get tackled on the right of your screen, Jesus Christ was that a robbery down the stretch.
