RIP George Mira

It was in 1962 that I found myself in an intramural baseball game at UM. I was at the plate hoping at least to make contact with the ball. My hopes however were in vain. I never knew anyone who ever threw a baseball faster than George Mira. So, I tried to bunt. No way. The Madador as they called him mowed me down as well as all others on the team. Mira pitched a no hitter.

I got to know George pretty well even after his pro career ended and he operated a food concession at Miami’s Parrot Jungle. I think it was George who was first responsible for casting the University of Miami into college football’s limelight. I recall George being named first team All American and Namath second team, which was reversed the next year. I am much saddened by George’s demise. Oh, the great memories I have of him.

To this message, I add this link which is a superb description of the Mira family and their hometown of Key West. ONE WONDERFUL CONCH IS THIS MIRA - Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com

I put the blame on my computer which like me is old and suffering the ravages of time. A faulty computer coupled with a faulty user.

Damn, very sorry to hear this. I’m going to post this link or you just go to YouTube and find it. I’m always posting on my phone on here so don’t know if the link works. It’s for Miami- Notre Dame 1981 - kinda fitting this week right?
