Considering this, 10% (roughly 4.5 million children) of public school students have experienced some form of sexual misconduct by the time they graduate high school, yet of the 77.4 million Catholics in the United States, .01% reported claims of child sexual abuse (10,667 children). It has also been studied and concluded that about 4.4% of all clerics were known to sexually abuse children between 1946 and 2014, yet it is estimated that roughly 5% of men are pedophiles and those numbers do not even take into account the incidence of female sexual predators at all. These numbers make a harsh case against public school employees.
Interesting little factoid I stumbled onto today.
@Warden84 would love to hear your thoughts…. Sans personal attacks if you’re capable.
How come I don’t see you attacking public education as vigorously as The Vatican?
First off, obviously all of it is repugnant, regardless of who does it.
But, right or wrong, we do hold clergy in higher moral regard. And that there are cases where this stuff was covered up, they deserve all the criticism they get and then some.
Same would be true if a public school’s administration did the same thing.
It’s written by Charol Shakeshaft and in it, cites themselves as the source from 2004. Always be alert if someone tries to prove their point by citing themselves.
So, delve into her initial report - based upon 225 complaints within the time frame of 1990-1993, of which her extrapolated conclusion was :
According to the NEA and Dept of Education Civil Rights Division, in 2017-2018, there were 14,938 incidents of sexual violence in K-12. There are 5.4 million students - that’s .002%. This is astoundingly high, but explaining my position on the Catholic Church. It is, however, dramatically lower than 4.5 million, which by her own admission, is an extrapolation of the 225 cases she reviewed in 2004. Considering those numbers, that’s quite an extrapolation. . Currently, there is no nationwide study or accounting of sexual abuse in schools by teachers. That, in itself, is an abomination.
Your own article claims .01% in the Catholic Church
Those are documented, not an extrapolation from 225 cases published in 2004 on cases in 1990-1993.
So, why the misrepresentation or assurance of these “hard statistics” when they aren’t “hard statistics”?
Also, they cited 77 million Catholics in the US, with .01% having cited being abused by clergy or the like. However, the Catholic child rape is worldwide and stretches back literally centuries.
Seems like a disingenuous intention with the framing, yes? They’re pushing a narrative
First, who’s the source? Why would they have an agenda?
Go2Tutors is a homeschooling website. They have a financial interest, but is that it? Who’s the author and who did she cite?
It was written by Jessica Marie Baumgartner, who also writes for the fake news website The Epoch Times, and the propagandist right wing website The Federalist. She’s a homeschooler of her kids for their entire lives.
When she writes in other areas, she lists statistics like 135 teachers charged this year and blames sex education on it. Of course, no data and she cites herself (another one)
Conservatives do this quite often. An opinion piece will come on, then later in the “news” they’ll cite the opinion piece without noting its from their network, then later in the evening cite both reports are corroborating evidence.
Her personal blog is riddled with anti public education stories
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…once again, you try to scapegoat rape by the Catholic Church, dating back centuries, protected by the Vatican. At every single opportunity you show you care little about any of the abused having called it not that bad, the media’s fault, no more than anyone else, etc.
But, the reason I focus on the Catholic Church is because it claims to be of and from God, directly from the apostles, and God’s hand on earth. Yet, it’s been the most corrupt organization throughout recorded history. The main issue I have is you Catholics just don’t appear to care. I have never seen anyone defend teachers messing with students, but I have seen decades of Catholics saying…ah, not so bad. No big deal - just like you. You’ve made it clear you qualify your Catholicism but based upon politics…you didn’t give one fuck about centuries of screwing kids. Instead, you made excuses…blamed the media, said it wasn’t that bad, etc.
Says the guy who blames the media for Catholic child rape. What a disgrace…again, your family must be overwhelmingly embarrassed
If you look a little deeper, they’re referencing the exact same 2004 study I talked about. If you keep looking, you’ll find out things like Billy Jo Grant works for SESAME and Wilkerson owns Magnolia Consulting.
Citing yourself, again…you can bury it in as many pages as you want, but you’re still citing yourself
I understand that. My point is that it’s most likely underreported. It’s more than 10%
I think the statistic is 1 in 3 boys and 1 in 5 girls experience sexual abuse in their lifetimes (early on). Makes complete sense that it’s occurring in the public schools where they spend 5 days a week and sometimes summer.
But again- keep trying to downplay rape and molestation of children.
