Guys, congratulations on one hell of a year. It was incredibly fun cheering for the Hurricanes.
It was amazing. Like I said in the game thread, Miami was an underdog team of destiny this year. The only problem was our destiny crashed headlong into Indiana’s.
They have a great story and great achievement. I do believe Miami is a better team if we cut down on mistakes. We beat ourselves more than they did. But it was a great season and a great game.
We had a legitimate chance of winning the game. If Beck had hit Toney on the drag route instead of going deep, Toney probably scores or gets a huge gain with plenty of time.
305’s description summarizing the season was remarkably insightful and eloquent.
I thought Bauman was a bust at UM. Not only did he drop a lot of passes, it was his whiff on a block that accounted for the blocked punt.
I note the TE coach of the Canes is leaving for Ole Miss. I can hardly blame the guy since Dawson rarely uses the TE. Moreover, I think Dawson has forgotten that slant passes together with the out are the two basic pass plays in football. Throwing slants to burly TEs has been routine for most coaches, but not for Dawson. I am back joining Madstork in giving Dawson the boot and replacing him with someone fiery, someone like Heatherman who exudes passion. We would have won against Indiana had Dawson not insisted in running so many first half plays through the A gap since Indiana operated a run blitz on EVERY first down. If a half-senile guy like me noticed this on film, why didn’t Dawson. Every time Fletcher ran wide, he found a measure of daylight. We played a miserable first half against Indiana.
Warden, nice to see your byline on a praiseworthy post pertaining to football rather than your usual post critical of the greatest president since Lincoln. Since you do have a measure of talent with words, I’d like to see you expand your writing on the subject of UM football. Indeed, we had a blast this year during the most memorable season in more than twenty years.
Super fun year for you guys. I enjoyed watching it. Though, I’ll always see Miami as a distant team I cheer for only when my teams are out of contention. Craig Erickson and the guys were really nice to me as a kid when they were in town for a bowl game and Dallas lives and dies for Miami. But, down deep in the heart, I cheer for Texas and the University of North Texas first.
