Pelosi going to Taiwan

What does everyone think of Pelosi going to Taiwan amidst the threats from China?

I can’t stand Pelosi, but I think it’s the right move for her to go.

She can’t back down now. Can’t show a sign of weakness to China.

I think she should go. 1,000%.

China’s full of hot air and we can’t let them dictate our policy or make public demands.

They are positioning to attack and take Taiwan during transition of 2024.

I’m not a global strategist and I’m not saying anyone’s right or wrong, but I would be VERY surprised if China takes military action on Taiwan in the next decade.

For them to do so would require:

  • a compelling reason to act sooner rather than wait, ie. some emergency or impending problem
  • stronger economic protections and stability, which China currently lacks
  • a more powerful military and, specifically, navy to project force
  • (as GSC mentions in regards to the 2024 transition) a more favorable US administration

China prefers soft power and changing the hearts and minds in Taiwan over the course of years or decades. That’s much more likely over an actual attack.

Pelosi should get sick and be rushed back to the U.S. The last thing the U.S. needs is to get involved with another war it cannot win. Don’t look for the U.S. to defend Taiwan even if there is an invasion. It just will not happen. Most Americans could not care less about Ukraine or Taiwan. Furthermore, the U.S. simply cannot afford endless warfare.

Winning is not acting as the world policeman, nor is it spending money fatuously that it cannot afford. If anything, our defense should be devoted to technogical protection of the homeland. At the same time, China et al should be precluded from buying U.S. farmland. The U.S. needs to scale down the military, close useless bases around the world, and improve the lot of this nation’s people. Additionally, we should be circumspect about sanctions that they do not hurt us worse than them.
Jingoism and issuing ultimata incur a risk when it comes to enforcement. The faux pride of idiots is what provokes wars.

I don’t think anyone’s surprised to see bikki’s cowardice in the face of enemy empire building.

Yes, you’ve uncovered an age-related error. Being 79 years old, I am somewhat hampered when my hands typing at over 100 words per minute lose coordination with my brain. Further, I learned many years ago as a journal editor, that my editorial ability to edit others was far easier than editing my own stuff. Nevertheless, even if I lose a few IQ points, I’d still be adequate, perhaps more than adequate, to deal with you guys. What’s the old expression–“like shooting fish in a barrel.”

I have corrected the message. Thank you for having the mental acuity to have detected it.

Many of you are under delusion that the U.S. is the preeminent military power on earth. It once was, and regrettably we’ve become hubristic believing this to continue to be the case. We’ve long forgotten the incredible pestilence that war brings to people inasmuch as we haven’t fought on our native soil since the Civil War.

The China-Taiwan situation is a continuation of civil war in China. Yes, Taiwan has been a faithful ally, and it would be disheartening to see it fall beneath the yoke of communist tyranny, Yes, we have agreed both to recognize Taiwan’s sovereignty and defend it against China’s aggression, but we cannot possibly, short of nuclear engagement, stop China from annexing Taiwan should the Chinese decide to do so.

Here’s why. Technology has caught up with conventional military action, and sane countries recognize that we live under the threat of planetary nuclear extinction. Were we to move our fleet into the China Sea to defend Taiwan, the fleet would be destroyed within thirty minutes, perhaps even a shorter span of time. Aircraft carriers became obsolete following the Battle of Okinowa. The Battle of Okinawa saw 600 U.S. ships in action. Despite all that firepower, the Japanese devised a weapon capable of neutralizing Navies. Guided missiles filed with explosives flown by suicidal pilots–Kamikazees. Flown by young Japanese youth, many with but scant pilot training, they were able to achieve success in twenty percent of their flights. With today’s guided missiles and torpedoes, Navy ships are like sitting ducks. Delivery time at 8,000 miles per hour makes destroying an entire Navy an hourly task, perhaps lesser time.

Nancy Pelosi has no business conducting U.S. foreign policy. She should stay home busying and enriching herself through insider trading. War with China over Taiwan? Not going to happen.

I didn’t vote Biden.

This is a joke. Problems aside, the US military right now is the most powerful military this planet has ever seen.

But actively losing and will eventually lose that status. China and India will be the ones to overtake at some point. We know the Russian military is a joke now, much to Axis Salley dismay.

I’m surprised Taiwan is so high on this list, which is another factor in why they are important to us.

A joke that achieved all of their objectives and was able to keep Western powers out of the conflict lol.

This has to be a joke, right?

All of their objectives? Really? They’re having trouble hanging on to territory in the east, let alone their failures in taking out Kyiv and Zelensky.

And you wonder why we call you out for rooting for Putin when you say dumb shit like this.

How the fuck would you know? Because Maddow told you?

Sure, I’m not beating my chest chanting USA USA. I’m aware the US has problems, and other countries are gaining in terms of nuclear, and India and China have overwhelming population advantages, etc. I’m just speaking to now.

I think the creators of this list would easily swap Russia and China in the 2 and 3 positions. At this point Russia has been exposed, and while still very powerful, they are probably less so than China. On that front, China’s military ability it heavily untested, but that unknown quantity can be a dangerous factor in itself.

They withdrew from Kyiv and canceled that objective. Their new objectives were stated and they haven’t achieved ANY of them yet. Most war analysts believe the bare minimum objective Russia must achieve to save face is retaking all of Donbas, which they haven’t done yet. In fact, they failed to take Kharkiv which is a city ON THEIR BORDER.

And what is this about keeping Western powers out of the conflict? Russia complains every day about Western involvement.

The only way I could read it too, though it’s hard to find the punchline. I really don’t know what he’s going for there except trying to be contrarian after DJ’s comment.

Funny skeeter didn’t ask how GSC knew Russia accomplished all their objectives. I’d expected a snarky rejoinder asking if Putin had texted him the details or something…

Crazy to me that India hasn’t flinched in purchasing oil from Russia.
