Only ONE Portal Please

I really agree with what Lashlee had to say about only having one portal. The timing of this winter portal is just horrible. Why on earth would the NCAA allow the portal to be open during Bowl and Playoff season? It’s ludicrous. Really.

Personally, since we are a mini-NFL, let’s limit the Portal/Free Agency to just once and then let’s put in a rule that does not allow a player to transfer the following year if he just transferred to a program. They have to wait at least one year and IMO I think players should only be allowed to transfer twice, that’s it.

Guys like James Franklin, Rhett Lashlee, are spot on!

Can’t agree with you on this. Like they say What’s good for the goose… is good for the gander.

Coaches can jump around like crickets whenever they feel like without a care or worry in the world …but they whine when kids are able to do it . So many of them were luring kids to sign for school X…and then once signing day was over and the kid was "locked in " …then many of those recruiters/coaches would jump ship to another program for a bigger payday.

The people who are crying about the portal and NIL are the ones not benefiting the most from it. If the complaining coaches don’t like the new college football environment …then they can find another line of work. Maybe we can tweak your suggestion . …and limit how many times coaches can jump to different jobs in a given period of time.

The days of the HC being a " little tin god" are over.

Agree to disagree. There is a difference between adults and kids. Well, I guess that is debatable in our current world climate, but it’s an overwhelming consensus amongst the coaches. You don’t see this much jumping around in the NFL. It’s why you have contracts. It’s only a matter of time before they close one window. Heck, they might even start seeing contracts for NIL. Either way, college football is a MESS!!

Like any newfound freedom there will be a test of its limits but IMHO there is no need for intervention. Not from the idiotic NCCA or from congress (which the NCAA has been asking for).

Much as as in any market situation the warning of caveat emptor will prevail . If you are the HC of say…Muddy-Water State and and you see that Roger the RB has been bouncing around …you make calls to where he’s been. You find out he’s an entitled little brat with more attitude and problems (handlers etc)than talent…it’s a hard pass on that kid.

My personal view is that it is the loss of total control which has many of these coaches griping. Remember when a coach could bench a kid …bar him from transferring to any particular school AND the kid STILL had to sit out and lose a year ?! To me that was bordering on criminal conduct.

How about no coaching changes and transfers until after the season is officially over, bowl games included? Kids should be allowed to enroll late if they wish or they can finish out the Spring semester where they are (with the options of staying put if they wish.)

I imagine it will take a few years for the NCAA to work the bugs out of this permanent free agency thing.

It’s truly a mess, really. NIL and FA have forever changed college football. The NCAA isn’t in charge, it’s the boosters, those who have the money. The NFL has a salary cap for a reason, so should college football.

My opinion, ONE portal in the spring, once a kid chooses to transfer they have to wait one year before transferring to another school, no more hopping from school to school each year. Teams are being decimated by FA. I’m not sure how to make bowl games more appealing for kids, I’m sure dangling some money would work. It’s just a total mess right now.

Fixed it for ya

But hey I’m just a former diehard fan, I understand kids and families’ wanting to make money. Can’t tell them no.
