“He’s thirty- eight,” Obama said, pausing for dramatic effect, “but he looks thirty.” The audience laughed. Obama was on a roll, using the tone of light ridicule he some-times pointed at himself— “ big ears” and “a funny name,” he’d said so many times before. Now, it was directed at Buttigieg. “He’s the mayor of a small town,” the former president continued. “He’s gay,” Obama said, “and he’s short.” More laughter.
Your thoughts 51? Are you outraged?
Good article. Obama picked the most sane individual in the race. His comments about Buttigieg were made in jest, and I find them innocuous. Obama is eminently likeable, and when rehearsed is a brilliant speaker. He was however a complete failure as president, but I have confidence that Joe will supplant his position at the bottom of the presidential ranking list.
You’re saying he’s a homophobe for making the factual statement that he’s gay?
This is what you have to come at me? Come on, man!
It’s not like he called him a faggot. That’s Skeeters job.
I think the point he’s making (let’s be honest), is while I don’t think this should matter AT ALL, this country isn’t ready for a gay president. At the end of the day who will get the most votes? Hell - Biden was on life support at one point during the campaign. And Dems knew damn well they wouldn’t beat Trump by trotting Warren or Bernie out there.
So his statement seems less of a homophobic one and more of a votes/numbers answer.
Good enough answer for you?
He’s making it in the context that he can’t be president because of it.
Did you not read 51’s answer where he addressed that? (If it was edited after your post, read his again.)
Yeah - kinda. Unfortunately there is a stigma - especially in the black community - about gays.
So if you’re just looking at it based on ability to get votes to win - then yes - Pete being gay is a problem in today’s world. Hopefully someday that will change.
Now, if Obama is a homophobe that’d probably be a positive in your book to vote for him.
I keed, I keed.
No because he wrote it after my response.
Actually no.
Let’s substitute “gay” for “black”
If Joe Biden in 2007 said Barack was black so he shouldn’t run because he wouldn’t get the votes… would your answer suffice?
I certainly think Joe would get some flak for that - but how about let’s focus on what was actually said.
Sometimes i feel like im talking to a black hole.
I am talking about what he said.
You made the argument that it wasn’t bad because he meant it in a factually political way.
- America is not ready for a gay President
- A gay presidential candidate would cost voters
- Mayor Pete is gay
- Ergo- Mayor Pete shouldn’t run for President
Im applying YOUR logic but just switching the word “gay” to “black” to show you it doesn’t work.
In 2008
- America is not ready for a black President
- A black presidential would cost voters
- Barack Obama is black
- Ergo, Barack Obama should not run for President.
You would tell me the second one is racist but you defend the first one as not homophobic?
GTFOH.
Great. Now cite it.
And after (if) you do, I will still be able to answer your question.
Cite a hypothetical that is designed to show the hypocrisy if your position?
I just did.
@GardenStateCane Wait a second. Are you saying that what you said that Biden said about Obama isn’t true?
I’m waiting.
What do you want me to tell you? Keep waiting i suppose.
Its an intellectual argument. Not a claim that Biden said something of the sort.
The fact that your now demanding a citation for a hypothetical is more than enough to ascertain that you don’t have a good answer.
Oh, now you admit Biden didn’t say that. Thank you.
I’ve already answered your question above about Obamas response to Pete being gay.
What else do you want me to say?
