Nobody Wanted Austin Reed

Austin Reed was a stellar QB for St. Augustine High School leading his team to a 12-1 record. He was named a 6a All State QB. But, nobody recruited Austin Reed. He was a taw headed kid who just didn’t look like a football player. Finally Southern Illinois offered him a scholarship, and Reed accepted. While a Saluki at Carbondale, Reed rode the bench for a year. When the portal opened up, he decided to look elsewhere.

Pete Shinnick, Coach of the University of West Florida Argos noticed Reed on the portal list and convinced him to move to Pensacola. Last year, Austin Reed became the Div II player of the year leading UWF to the Div II National Championship. This year Reed is back, and UWF is ranked No. 3 among Division II schools. This past week, Austin Reed led the Argos past the No. 2 ranked school Valdosta State. This week the Div II Championship Playoffs begin, and UWF with Austin Reed lighting it up has a good chance to win a second National Championship.

I think Austin Reed is the best QB in the State of Florida, and it wouldn’t surprise me were he to be playing on Sundays, but he still doesn’t look like a football player, but he sure as hell plays like one.
