From what I understand with the lifting of the dead period we should start to see some meaningful recruiting action. When I saw the headline of a new commit on the Sun-Sentinel website I wondered why someone was committing now, right before the dead period ends. Or another way of saying this is why did UM take a verbal before the dead period ends. Will be interesting to see if this fellow sticks or perhaps gets pushed out before things solidify.
Word is that he played with and against Jacurri Brown on the circuit and that he was one of the guys Brown was pushing for and trying to recruit. Won’t be surprised if he was a silent for a while and the coaches asked him to commit at this time to kick off the recruiting season with some momentum…
I will trust Skeeter with the eval that he is a “definite” take
He’s not Santana Moss…But he looks like a pretty damn good slot to me. And he’s not 150 lbs like some of the local options were
Mortimer and Lee are a toss up to me…Gun to my head I take Mortimer because a step faster and local. But Lee can play…Has game speed and really fights for the ball…I don’t believe 6’1…Maybe 5’11 or 6’0 tops.
The local receiver pool does feel underwhelming, but isn’t an issue with 7 in the last two years.
Miami has been shopping for the shifty receivers, and Quan Lee decided to take the spot before the action started. They never went after DeVaughn Mortimer (which suggests an underlying problem), and only glanced at Mike Jackson. With his size, I’d guess they keep after Jayden Gibson, but likely not much more receiver activity.
As for Lee, the Mike Harley comps are fair that project him as a quality college receiver without top speed. Mortimer is noticeably faster. The word is Lee is ultra-competitive, and from his tape should arrive with plus hands. That can go a long way in CFB.
Overall, not a bad compliment to Brinson, Smith, Redding, George.
The more I read about Quan Lee, the better I like him. I watched his films, and the kid fights like hell for the ball, snatching it away when crowded. He’s also fast: 4.4 in the forty. Give this kid a year in the gym, and he’ll turn out to be an impact player.
Looks stronger than Harley and a tad shiftier, maybe half step slower…All in all I wouldn’t disagree with the comparison though
Ibeta or Morrow maybe Shadow as WR #2? Unless they can pull a Horton shocker…I also agree there’s a chance at only 1…If I had to call it I’d guess 2 is the number though.
I think passing on a RB is kinda dumb. Although it seems like they want a Sofla double dip next year with Fletcher/Bullard
The other likely possibilities are
Gibson 33%
Horton 33%
S.Wilson 33% (no offer yet)
All of those guys are bigger, taller wr…They are talking about wanting 3, but I think we only end up with 2 as there are simply bigger needs and next year is a BANNER Sofla class as discussed in other threads. Hell I don’t even think 1 is a major failure…I’d like 2 and think they take 2…But I’d rather the 5th and 6th DL, the 3rd backer, the 4th or even 5th OL etc…
For names of possible backup plans refer to the “offense board” thread.
They aren’t sweating him…Ibieta likely took his place as a slot. I like both kids…I doubt either are S.Moss, but I think both were takable as I said many times.
