He was making $24M/year, he can’t get by on that? Even if he loses half to taxes, that is still $1M/month net take home pay. WTF???
Pro athletes have been coodled their whole lives. When they have to deal with reality and their athletic ability can no longer excuse their horrible behavior/decisions, they often crumble.
I have a friend who played MLB for a time. Nice, likeable guy but he lost everything to a gambling and pain killer addiction. Had to file bankruptcy. And he played with guys who had similar problems, one who became an MD while playing MLB and then became addicted to pain killers.and started writing himself prescriptions, got caught and lost his medical license.
If you ever take oxycodone or similar drugs (synthetic opiates) be super careful. Those drugs are incredibly addictive and people you would never think would become addicts have.
