Tackles for loss are only one aspect of defense…And it does not = a good tackling team. It just means you blitz a lot, it is a result from scheme. I’m not one of those guys that screams about missed tackles…It’s part of the game, and I tend to give credit to the offensive players. But it was EXTREME today. And has been a lot the last few years.
You can’t get ran over like that…You can’t have no-one within a wide receiver in the 4th.
Yes Mallory dropped a ball…Drops happen everywhere in every game of college football. We are talking patterns and how long does this guy need to recruit linebackers and corners? This has been his defense for a long time.
2 years ago Manny LITERALLY set a record for most losses as a td or more favorite. I like a lot of what he’s done…But I think he is way too easy on kids…What in the living hell does a player have to do to lose his job in Diaz’s defense?
I would love to see him succeed, and I think he has a CHANCE to turn it around…But you know how this program and fan base do in the face of negativity and adversity
4 losses is probably firable…Depending on how the injury bug goes. I mean I could probably make a case for keeping him at 4 bc I hate starting over.

But we looked today like we did 2 years ago…And when you couple that in with the fact we aren’t even CLOSE to the top teams (Blown out the gate from first drive on vs. CU last year and Bama this year). Sooner or later you have to show up on the field. I like some things going on in recruiting…(I do question a lot of his personnel passes, especially at the linebacker/corner position), I like this past year’s hires. But we aren’t where we need to be imo. He has the rest of the year imo…But we are basically a midpack team in the 4th or 5th best conference, nothing more…And it should be MORE by now. Bradley Jennings should not be on the field in year 5 or 6 of Diaz’s defense.
This wasn’t the easiest start of the season by any means. I’d say 80% of teams so far have played an FCS or AT least a bottom 10-15 team. We played 3 very physical teams…I get it. But honeymoon’s over Storm. I was probably the 2nd longest to stick with Golden lol… (surpassed only by you)…And I hate senseless calling for coach’s heads. But it’s now or never. IMO he has the rest of the season, and I’m not optimistic… I didn’t like the hire at the time, I wanted to be pleasantly surprised, last season at times made me think hey maybe with some more hires he can get us to the top 15 consistently. Believe me my ultimate preferred scenario here is Manny Diaz succeeding…BC I don’t want to see UM start over. And I think with some of these hires he has a CHANCE to take the next step. But when you don’t know how to run a program or coach on gameday…The odds are against you. In all honesty, It doesn’t look like he can coach a lick…And his roster management is suspect as is his decision to not mesh ideas with a veteran dc and take over the reins himself.

I have been a Cane since the early1970s-a season ticket holder and booster. I have seen it all-good and bad. I had Paul Dee on my cell and he picked up before the 3D ring. I wanted Manny to succeed. But, this is beyond bad. Manny’s so-called hawk tackling style blows. His over-commit scheme is laughable. We haven’t set an edge in years. He plays guys who act all ra-ra and ignores talented quiet guys. Well fuck this.
No more money for the school-any part of the school. The med school and law school can close their doors-IDGAF. The administration has focused on liberal causes de jour and has forgotten what put Suntan U on the national map. Fuck Frenk, fuck the BOT.
My kids went elsewhere, and now I will send money there. Fuck this shit show. I hope they have a great time stopping the rising seas, ordering the slaves to take experimental meds, and championing tranny rights. Rant over. I am out.

Oh god that was unbearable watching any misdirection plays. The cutback was murder today. Even the announcers were saying “that is going to get at least 10, 20…you know, sometimes 5 yards every time”
I predicted it a crushing defeat without knowing what a rag tag bunch they have at MSU. They’re not well coached, make numerous mistakes, and they are far from a poised football team. But, they can rush the football, and we cannot stop the rush, the first and most critical responsibility of any defense. In the matter of poise, I find both teams lacking. Hence the annihilation did rise to a Clemson-like beat down, but a physical beat down it was, and in the fourth quarter there was no doubt who the winner would be.
Humiliating defeats have become the grimmest part of being Miami fans. Getting rolled by FIU was an egregious event, but the Hurricane have the capacity to sink embarrassingly lower. I am predicting that a bad FSU team this year will rise up and turn into a Godzilla force when playing the Hurriccanes, and the heaviest shroud of shameful gloom will cast a pall over Hurricane fans. Yes, I am picking FSU to beat the Canes this year in the greatest “stink up” game in a score of years. We can’t stop the run, and we cannot rush the football.
I agree with Tampa Bay in his criticism of what I perceive as a distorted University Mission now embraced by UM. In ways other than football we are not winning either.

I do think there is some fatigue…We have played imo a top 5-10 caliber schedule and we haven’t had that low quality MAC/Sun Belt opponent LET ALONE an FCS and I’d wager that 80% of CFB has played one. Those weeks basically help you take a deep breath and regroup. But fatigue and moderate injuries are things teams/programs have to overcome every week… and we look ridiculously bad to the eye. Thi As for injuries…MEH. Every team has em every week…And if you have one LB that is worth a damn on the whole damn team (K.Smith)…I mean Brooks is injured behind him, but Brooks while I like some things about the kid hasn’t exactly been a worldbeater. When you have ran the defense FOR 6 YEAR then it’s your fault that when he gets injured there is that much of a drop off, and the fact all your MLBs stink is compounding the problem. I’m happy we’ve cut Ivey’s snaps…But he basically should never see the field. Jennings- Again, should never see the field…And when I think about all the kids Diaz passed on at LB/CB.
PFF Charts tackling…Kenneth Walker forced 22 missed tackles YESTERDAY…UM backs have forced 11 all season. We rank dead last in tackling at 130 out of 130 teams …Now adjusted for schedule we probably aren’t 130th (i.e. we haven’t gotten to tackle a North Carolina A&T to pad our stats), we would definitely be triple digits. Unacceptable at UM.
I like the youth on this team…And would love to see Dia bring it all together. Again I’m just not optimistic.

That’s the thing for me. I could buy into a rebuilding process (though oddly it’s been Diaz team pretty much for 6 years now). I could buy into scheme changes.
But when the team is playing like they have been…man they just play like shit. I’ve never seen a Miami team play this piss poor consistently. Overlooking a team, sure. Partying too hard before a cupcake, sure. But we look like dogshit consistently. At some point you have to recognize that it’s a pattern and not an aberration. At that point, you realize the team is shit top to bottom.
That’s not gonna change with a new mission statement. You have to clean house.

I would bet SERIOUS money that if UM loses 4 AND keeps Diaz…That we don’t go better than 2 for 4 on Armelia, Stewart, Kelly, Blissainthe (we came into the season leading for 3 out of 4) and that we don’t keep all 3 stud corner commits.
